Warner Brothers announced today that James Wan will be the director of the 2018 film Aquaman, which currently stars Jason Momoa. Reported by SuperHeroHype, Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures made the announcement.
Silverman said that they were lucky to work with Wan on New Line's The Conjuring and the upcoming The Conjuring 2. Silverman went on to say a few more things about Wan's work.
"The ‘Aquaman’ film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.”
In addition to directing, Wan will be supervising the script, which was written by Kurt Johnstad, known for 300 & 300: Rise of an Empire. Before Aquaman appears in his own film, he will make his debut in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016.
Wan is known for his horror films, such as Saw and the first two Insidious films. Most recently, Wan found success with Furious 7. Aquaman will hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
