While you wait for The Others.... 0

Geoff Johns has never hesitated to expand or clarify the history and mythology of certain characters. His ideas tend to be big and this run on Aquaman is no exception as he pulls back the curtains on his past and shows that Arthur Curry may not always have been the boy scout we believed he was.Taking place 6 years in the past, humanity is knocking on Aquaman’s door demanding answers as it always does when something strange or alien upsets the status quo. Apparently the city of Atlantis is very r...

    Scrutiny 3

The story arc proceeds pretty much as could be expected here with an issue that drops off somewhat in tone after a pretty decent lead-in.  There is nothing really wrong with it either, as they have introduced a lot of characters and plot points and it will take a few issues to sort all of them out.  What is noteworthy here as usual with Johns' writing is that the characters as portrayed very strongly and with more depth than many elsewhere.  There is a little bit of confusion with the back and f...

    Going Somewhere 0

Issue 8 of Aquaman continues to reveal more of what issue 7 was beginning to hint at. A lot is told but in all honesty it is a bit...confusing. We aren't told the story from the beginning but more from a mid-adventure point of view. Although it is quite good, it seems a bit forced in and the reader is left sort of wondering what just happened and what does it mean. I love this book, Aquaman has become a favorite read of mine, but what all the issues up to now had in great story-telling, this one...

    Geoff Johns' Better League 2

This is probably one of the best Aquaman covers thus far. It doesn't fall as badly into the usual traps of dull standard design. It's not a super spectacular cover, no, but it's at least well balanced. I do have one major gripe though, and it has to do with Ya'Wara's boobs. Every time I take a glance at the cover, the position she's in, combined with the way her top curves, makes it look like her boobs are half their size, and she's topless. Her black bra looks like shadows at a glance, and the ...

It All Comes Out in The Wash... 2

If you are NOT reading Aquaman, you SHOULD be. That may sound cliched, but it's true. The trade paperback collection for the first story arc, Aquaman Volume 1: The Trench releases in September, if you need to catch up.Aquaman #8, "The Others: Chapter Two", is Aquaman at his best. I've been very selective in what I read by Geoff Johns, so I don't think I've been disappointed by him yet. I'm reading Aquaman based on what he's done with Hal Jordan and Green Lantern. I'm not a fan of bringing Barry ...

O.K.... you haven't lost me yet, but I want more 0

The second part of 'The Others' storyline is an improvement over the first, not because we get more details about what is going on - you'd expect that in the second part of a multi-parter; but because the execution of the story is a little better. The art is back up to snuff, and there's even some humorous visual exchanges between Ya'wara and Mera, and between Shin and Ya'wara's jaguar.O.K. I still don't like this kind of cheesy generic superhuman team from Aquaman's past, or the fact that Black...
