    Aquaman #5 1

SummaryAlthough the previous arc finished last month, it would appear all is not over yet. After scientists find an Atlantian relic in the roof of the old vessel discovered in the previous issue things go from bad to worse. What is the relic and what does it have to do with Aquaman’s heritage? Also... why is Aquaman stranded in the middle of a desert? Read this issue and find out! What I liked· The Geoff Johns Treatment: I like Geoff Johns’ writing for several reasons, but in particular I appreci...

Talk about the fish out in the dessert.... 0

Geoff Johns continues to bring life to a character that has been parodied and made fun of for so many years as Aquaman must face a challenge that in sounds more like a potential SNL sketch but still managed to keep it great while revealing new things related to atlantis. The issue starts in sonic video game fashion as our hero falls from the sky into an unknown desert. Pretty much knowing he is kinda screwed he grabs his trident as he recreates the scene from uncharted 3 and walks aimlessly. All ...

Fish out of water (Hyuk Hyuk Hyuk) 0

Aquaman made a big splash coming out of the new 52 (No, I won't stop with the water puns), giving us a rather likable, noble character who we genuinely wanted to see succeed. Geoff Johns continues to give us more good stuff on the former king of Atlantis, as well as setting up the next few story arcs Aquaman is going to find himself in.From the start, Johns clearly shows how comics are supposed to be a visual medium, something we occasionally forget in dialog/inner monologue heavy books that hav...

    Aquaman # 5 0

Geoff Johns is really hitting hard recreating the Aquaman Universe. Homerun after homerun. From beginning to end this has been developing very nicely. Looks like Geoff Johns is going to reinvent Atlantis. It will be most interesting. This new reinventing the character will be more than likely a hugely success as Geoff Johns was with The Green Lantern. I am loving this series, it’s another A list book out there. I rate this book a 5.0 rating of 5.0 rating.1=wack, 1.5=falling asleep, 2=below avera...

    "A" Is For Atlantis 0

With the conclusion of The Trench story arc last issue, the beginning of the new Atlantis story arc kicks off as Aquaman finds himself Lost in the desert. I like the way the story transitioned from the first arc to the second one as Aquaman receives a phone call from a Navy Commander who informs him they found some artifact embedded in the wall the cocoons were attached to. Aquaman meets up with the Navy officer and examines the artifact which he claims is Atlantean. Suddenly they're attacked by...

    The Plot Thickens 0

We start with Aquaman falling out of the sky and landing in the desert. WHAT? Thankfully, the comic provides us with back story, cutting back and forth between past and present. Twelve hours earlier, Arthur gets a call from some folks who discovered a piece of the Atlantean ship from last issue among the fish cocoons and they want him to come check it out. Something about Aquaman owning a cell phone is hilarious to me but I can't quite articulate why. Apparently the device they found was the shi...

In the line of fire 0

After the first story arc, this issue jumps pretty much right into the second story arc, but in doing so it reveals what might be some weaknesses in an otherwise very strong series thus far.  As Mera lies sleeping Arthur is woken by a storm, foreshadowing the troubles to come, and as a phone call requests his presence away from his house he ends up in situation where (as the cover suggests) he ends up stranded in the desert.  The process by which he gets here is pretty interesting, involving amo...

Johns Really Can't Push The Boundaries Can He? 0

The concept for this issue is fantastic. Drop Aquaman in the desert. Win. And every scene that depicts Aquaman in the desert is fantastic. A lot of care is put into making sure we really feel the vast emptiness. Huge expanses of the sky, balance between wide shots and uncomfortably close without much in between. Great use of repeated or almost repeated panels. All of it is excellent. Now I appreciate juxtaposition as much as anyone else, likely a little more than most; but here it just didn't wor...

So I'm an Aquaman fan. I get enough of it from the wife - so no additional remarks are necessary. This issue though continues to embody what I like about that character; conflict within himself, a calm and talk less demeanor and a past that continues to bring meaning to the present. If you can't enjoy the irony of finding the man in the desert from chasing a Atlantean super secret SOF ship as a comic fan - I got nothing for you. The distress beacon activated which detailed a little as to the the...

I was skeptical, but it won me over 0

After a great first story arc, I was a little concerned about Geoff Johns ability to follow up. The opening pages of the comic hooked me (Aquaman falling out of the sky into the desert), but I was still skeptical - I mean we've seen this scenario before.A couple other things irked me right off the bat too. First, Aquaman's scale armor is nearly destroyed for the second issue in a row, and he ends up shucking it - it doesn't seem very useful. I hope this is addressed in the future. The second thi...
