    The Rising Downfall
    The Rising Downfall
A water hand.  Hmmmm.  I loved Aquaman when he had that harpoon hand.  The character seemed to have reached a point of greatness he had never really had before, or in my opinion since.  Aquaman peaked when he was dating Dolphin, with the beard harpoon hand, and gladiatorial looking armour.

Not that those things mad him great but, he was great when these things were going on.  First I have to admit he looked kingly.  He looked like a tough guy.  He just looked like the king of Atlantis.  His personalty seemed to change with these things as well.  He was less of a sad sack, brooding, moping hero.  He became confident and more authoritative.

Somehow giving him a water hand seems to take away from it.  He was "handicapped" but in reality he wasn't.  He was inspirational.  His missing limb was physical but his ability was not lessened.  He took a negative and made it a weapon.

The water hand and his attitude in this book seems like we are going back to the Aquaman who couldn't hold his own in a comic series.  I miss the old Aquaman.  Also, in this book the story  is forced.  Aquaman is seen collapsing at the edge of the water.  He has the energy to take off his hand and throw it in the water but not the strength to roll himself the four feet to the water.  (judging by scale)  This makes Aquaman look pathetic.  Giving up with the finish-line nearly in his grasp.  That is not the Aquaman I know.

I did not hate this book despite the way the review may sound but, this was where the character went down hill.  He still has his moments but he if a shadow of his former self.  It is a slightly above average book with a three star rating.  I only recommend it to the big comic and Aquaman fans who love to read the pinnacle stories in comic history. Like it or not this is one of those books.  this is where it happened.
