    Little is known of Ape's past before he joined the underground community of mutants known as the Morlocks who lived in "The Alley", a large tunnel located beneath Manhattan. Ape was mentally handicapped and resembled a neanderthal. His best friend Tar Baby told him what to shape shift into since he had a limited imagination. Despite his deficiency, Ape practiced formidable wrestling techniques.

    Ape accompanied a group of Morlocks to kidnap the Power Pack to replace Annalee's kids that were lost but they were quickly defeated by the X-Men.

    Ape was amongst the few Morlocks that managed to escape the massacre of their community by the superhuman team of assassins known as the Marauders with the help of the orginal X-Factor team. Ape was later captured by the organization known as Weapon X and imprisoned him in a concentration camp named " Neverland". He was executed after he was deemed of no value to the Project along his friend Tar Baby.

    Creation

    Ape was created by Louise Simonson and June Brigman in 1985 and first appeared in Power Pack # 12.

    Powers

    He has the ability to shapeshift into various things, but always sort of keeps his own form. He usually gets help in ideas of what to turn into from Tar-Baby, who give him riddles.
