Good F#cking Lord
Animal Man
Character » Animal Man appears in 756 issues.
As a happy-go-lucky hero and devoted family man, Buddy Baker can mimic the powers of any animal on Earth and beyond. His powers come from a connection with the morphogenetic field of Earth, also known as the Life Web or the Red.
OMG, Animal Man #6 was the worst thing I've ever read. EVER
I don't see how adding backstory to a character that's been re-introduced is wrong. In fact, it's a smart move.
I think it was a good addition. The fact that his son avoided telling him what he was watching makes it seem like he was genuinely connecting to the son in the film (ie. worrying about his father's life as a potential has-been.)
It was fine. I have read things that are so much worse it would make your head spin.
Plus, they needed a filler issue so that the crossover with Swamp Thing would work.

Why In the world would that matter now?, Also how the h3ll can that kid think that his father is a has been?
I mean Is the kid even paying attention to hat's going on?!, The freaking world Is about to end!!
I could understand If this was done the first issue, Fine I would have waited but to do It now Is just ridiculous.
This filler could have been done at a later date , I guess I'm so mad because I was really digging the story and BAM!!!!!. This lame @ss filler shows up.
I understand that they needed to fill a gap for swamp thing, But c'mon give me some Winnebago chase scenes for god's sake.
@utotheg38: I think, while it does take some of the pace away from the frenetic action of the previous five issues, its nice to have a chance to go back to what made Animal Man special throughout the vertigo series, in that his family are a big part of his life as a hero and his life in general. As with the majority of the DC relaunch titles, familial ties have been severed. Superman no longer married, Green Arrow de-aged, characters and connections nullified - so to have an issue where we see Buddy in a less than naturalistic setting, and ultimately, how the themes of this story mirror the themes of the Hunters Three - to become a better man, to protect his family, it's an important and slightly slower paced issue.
While, Ultimately, its not for everyone, I can see where you're coming from at least, I thought it was a cracking piece of Meta-fiction and a good addition to the title in general, showing the connection between Cliff and his Dad to be very much the connection between Buddy and his Father, only without the more antagonistic relationship that Buddy's Dad added to the mix. Its nice, considering it's been the Buddy and Maxine show for five issues.
Thats my take on it anyway.
This issue was more metaphorical for Buddy and his mental state than a literal addition to the plot. And, pardon this for lack of a better comparison, but it reminds me somewhat of the manner in which Tales of The Black Freighter was used, although I am in no way comparing this series to Watchmen. It is jarring and at first seemingly unrelated, but it reveals more about the titular character than having him punch the hunters three some more.
It's a good comic but not as good as the previous 5, it's nice to take a break from the rot for a bit. The comic was supposed to be in the style of a Darren Afronsky movie (Black Swan, The Wrestler, Requiem for a dream). I think even the director has a similar name to Darren Afronsky.
It's a reversal of Darren Aronofsky's name. The D and "Ar" are switched. It's a play off "The Wrestler", pretty much directly.
