    Simply Dazzling

The whole idea of the New 52 was to bring in new readers, create a jumping on point for casual readers, and bring back longtime fans. Only a few of the titles managed to do all three and the best example is Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman's Animal Man. Harkening back to the days of Animal Man's Vertigo title. Animal Man Vol 1: The Hunt is not only a thrilling book to read but also to look at.

Lemire successfully establishes Buddy Baker as a different kind of superhero, a family man first and foremost. He is easily able to make Buddy Baker a relatable and average joe kind of hero who has no interest in being with the big league heroes like Superman or Batman. The story is his daughter, Maxine starts to exhibit strange powers and takes her father on a journey to a place called The Red-the home of the Life Web.

Much credit has to be given to Travel Foreman for his simply amazing artwork and it is very well complemented by Lovern Kindzierski's colors. Animal Man's costume has gotten a noticeable facelift and is a welcome improvement over the original.

Not many of the New 52 were really accessible to new readers but Animal Man is perfectly new reader friendly. Heck before reading this book all I knew about Animal Man was that he was from the 70's. In my opinion Animal Man Vol 1: The Hunt is not only the best of the New 52 (yes even better than Aquaman) but as one of the best comics from DC ever.
