A Rot in the Red 0

First Five Pages: We follow Buddy(Animal Man) and Maxine(his daughter) through the Red and meet the Totems, who are the former avatars of the Red. Also, the Hunters Three are lingering outside the Baker household. The Goods: There are some pretty big reveals regarding Buddy and Maxine's true relation to the Red. The Totems also mention a war brewing, "A rot", Which looks to set things up for a Swamp Thing/Animal Man crossover. Also, there are some truly touching family moments here especially the...

    Blood Runs Red 0

Buddy and Maxine Baker have encountered The Totems, which are the representatives of The Red and all of life on Earth. As The Hunters move in to kill Buddy's family and take control of The Red, Buddy learns that his origins aren't what he has been led to believe. And the only person who can stop all life from being devoured by the rot of The Hunters, is his daughter Maxine.Written by Jeff Lemire and drawn by Travel Foreman, Animal Man continues to be one of the best ongoing comic books this year...

    Animal Man is terrific 0

Lemire & Foreman continue to do fun comics. How can I make that into the 100 word minimum? I signed onto this site exclusively to be able to give this comic a positive review. It's everything that the other 51 ought to be: a fun take on a mainstream comic that needs no apology. I would gladly show this to hardcore comics fans & non comics readers alike. The horror/superhero genre twisting is good, the deadpan slightly dry humor is great....

    Strange Man? 0

Let me start by saying anyone who looks at the Animal Man page will tell you, I have serious love for this character. I have read every appearance and I continue to buy two copies of this book to keep it afloat.Five Stars is not enough. This is literally everything I want from a comic. From the beautiful subversion of Horror, Superheroics and Emotional/Familial drama, to the inventive and down right beautiful construction of the Totems. Even more so, because it ties the Red more firmly to the st...

A great story getting better. 0

The only bad part about this comic is the art which makes it hard to make out things that are happening from time to time. Other than that, I loved every minute of this comic and wanted to continue reading at the end. I don't feel the cliff hanger for the next issue was done quite right, like the last issue, but that minor gripe aside this issue does what I loved about Swamp Thing last month. I had a question that was brought up about continuity because the previous and what they are saying don'...

Family fun on the run. 0

Review for Animal Man #3.The Story: Buddy and Maxine meet the totems who gave Buddy his powers and get attacked by two of the three Hunters, while Ellen and Cliff get chased by the third one.Thoughts: In the issue we get a bit of a retooling of Buddy's origin. The aliens were fake and were used by the Totems to give Baker his powers. I really like them from the first time we see them. They are big in stature but thanks to Foreman's art they are not natural looking, I honestly cannot properly des...

A Strange Journey For A Strange Man 0

It's amazing that in just 3 issues, Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman have brought Animal Man back to the forefront of DC, with their majestic work on the new volume of Animal Man. As Buddy Baker and his daughter Maxine delve deeper into uncharted territory, will they be able to survive the encounter of the Totems? Can this series get any better than what it is right now?  Let's jump into reviewing Animal Man #3. The GoodTravel Foreman stole the show with his interior art, first of all. From the co...

To think- I accused Milligan of weirdness for weirdness sake... 0

Animal Man is really beginning to try my patience. I remember that I initially really liked this title, because I was glad to see a Vertigo-like title in amongst the New 52. But reading this issue reminded me of some of the things I didn't like about Vertigo too. Namely, the put-your-hero in a universe/place/dimension, whatever, where there are no rules and you can do whatever you want.  In this issue, Buddy and his daughter are in 'The Red' where like The Matrix, the bad guys can do seemingly a...

    Into The Red 0

The last two issue have been amazing and now I hold issue three. Are things still rocking for Animal Man and his family?  THE GOOD: I really like the art. It's sketchy and definitely gives Animal Man a different tone then anything else DC is currently publishing. I really like this issue because it tells you Animal Man's origin but it only adds onto the current story. I really like the new Red aspect of the book and how there are a group of animals who pretty much control the kingdom. I also rea...

"I Come Here All The Time In My Dreams, Silly" 0

Synopsis   Revelations about Animal Man's powers and purpose are revealed in The Red, as the Baker family come under attack from The Hunters Three! The Good   This series continues to seriously impress me! The story is cleverly split between the empowered Buddy and Maxine deep in The Red, as wife Ellen and son Cliff are left alone on the run from one of The Hunters Three.   Buddy and Maxine meet the Totems, gigantic beings of immense importance within The Red, and the cause of Animal Man's power...

Three Issues in and I just cannot get out! 0

I have always been a fan of Animal Man, couple years back I purchased Grant Morrison's run on Animal Man and became an avid fan of the character. Since the start of the 52, Animal Man has been sort of a back up on my pull list until recently. I feel that the 52 was the best thing to happen to the character since Morrison's run, under the helm of Jeff Lemire, I feel like I have fallen in love all over again with the character. In many ways I feel what Lemire has done was continue Morrison's run (...

    Perfect Again 0

The Good: It's not as hauntingly disturbing as the first 2 covers, but this one is still top notch. The wild splatches of red are the finishing touches on the animalistic nature of the cover. Travel Foreman's artwork works better than it did last issue. The normal scenes do a better job at being normal enough, and there's actually a pretty slow scale of transition. If you like things creepy, then check this out. It's impressive just how good Foreman is at making things so horrendously nightmaris...

    Get It! 0

As I have said before with DC's reboot (will it last, only time will tell) I decided to give them a chance. I was wanting something a little less than the normal like Batman or Aquaman. I was tossing up between Swamp Thing and Animal Man and took the latter coz a mate recommended it. I am glad that I picked this up and so far, three issues in, I still wanna collect the series.Buddy Baker and his daughter have found the Red Place. This is the physical place of The Red, the life force Buddy taps i...
