    Brief History

Paul Lautetta's aviator hero first appeared in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly in April 1939. He then appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics 2 &3. This character was abruptly canceled after his appearance in Marvel Mystery Comics #3. Some say the reason for this was because American Ace was too politically intense for children, no one however knows for sure if this is true or not.

The character makes one more Golden-Age appearance in pages of The Arrow, a comic published by Centaur Comics, while the story and lead character are the same with the story continuing where it had left off in Marvel Mystery Comics # 2, with him being an air ace involved between two warring European countries, Attania and Castile d'Or, and while drawn the same as American Ace, his name is changed to Lieutenant Lank.
