Ghost Rider! Yeah! Ghost Rider!
This new Ghost Rider is drifting his way into being one of my favorite new characters this year. It's not Ketch or Blaze. He's not fighting Mephisto or Blackheart. This definitely feels fresh and exciting. I think that the choice of who Robbie Reyes' first big baddie might be is absolutely crazy and yet appropriate. Both characters transform into a monstrous entity and it feels like things are about to get messy...er in East L.A. Smith is giving us a hero that we can care about and sympathize with. 2 issues in and I'm already emotionally attached to Robbie. While reading this issue you start to hate his living situation even more (especially that Guero guy!). The art is totally fresh. Some might say it doesn't fit Ghost Rider cause it's supposed to be 'dark and demonic' but I disagree. New Ghost Rider means new style. If you want Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch then go read some older Ghost Rider comics, but I'd advise you to stick with this book because I have a feeling you'll see those characters eventually. The way this book is pacing out, it feels like it would read better in trade but the individual issue is satisfying for what it's worth and it would keep you wanting more at the same time. Can't wait for the next issue!
