Alisa and her husband adopted Jessica after her parents were killed in a car crash, and gave Jessica their name. Later in life, Alisa and Jessica attempted to stay in contact, but their relationship was somewhat distant.
Alisa disapproves of the lifestyle Jessica and her husband Luke Cage lead, as she feels it puts their daughter Danielle in danger.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Alisa appears as Jessica's biological mother on the Netflix show Jessica Jones. She has a prominent role in Season 2, played by Janet McTeer, where it is revealed that she survived the car crash that killed Jessica's father and brother. She was subjected to the same experiments to produce superhuman abilities as Jessica was, and was kept hidden away from the world by Karl Malus. Alisa developed a much greater degree of super strength than Jessica, to the point where she could easily overpower her daughter, but with the side effect of a murderous, easily provoked rage that was often difficult to keep under control.
Miriam Shor portrayed Alisa in Season 1 in a flashback scene of the car accident, but the role was recast for Season 2.
