I was seriously kind of hoping for gay Batman.

    How come....

Because he'd be the coolest gay guy ever. Plus, that'd be DC making more of a statement. Alan Scott's not iconic or popular at all.

    Agreed.

Now would he just come out like it's no big deal, or has he just been gay for a while (and by that, before Damien was Robin... or earlier)?

Well, to avoid unnecessary ugly anger, they'd have to say he was gay all along and in denial or something.

Or that he was bi but leaned towards women, and decided to try guys for a change.

Gay Batman is a backup personality in case straight Batman gets his heart broken.

Why are so many characters "coming out"? I mean I'm for having a diversity of characters, and I love having more gay characters in comics. But, why use an existing character? It seems to me that "gay" is just a poor substitute for "depth". Same opinion on Shatterstar. Loved the character in the 90's, he didn't need to be gay, he needed some depth and a backstory. We have neither to this day.

Can't argue for Alan Scott, but Shatterstar has never shown interest in girls and his relationship with Rictor was a little too "close". I've always assumed that he's gay even before the "big" reveal in X-factor.

I'm cool with this. I think we all kinda knew this is coming. I think that just because Alan Scott is gay doesn't mean Jade and Obsidian are gone. I mean, this world is definitely different and they could think of another way to get these characters into the world. Or, just put them on the real earth and they can just be the same character but with different backgrounds.

Whatever it is, I'm okay with it. Although, DC kinda made you think that some really HUGE character was going to be coming out. I think Alan Scott is iconic but I also have looking at Comic Book sites. I'm not sure normies would know who he is.

I think the correct time is muggles.

@Redberry: Shatterstar was asexual. He was indifferent to both male and female characters. Which I think is more unique than being gay.

I am 100% against this. DON'T TRY TO FIX SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T NEED TO BE FIXED. If you want a gay character, make a new one, I have nothing against gay people at all, but don't mess with one of my favorite characters just to seem more politically correct.

I kinda like it, but I guess I could understand why someone who dislike the changes. It feels like it actual adds depth to him instead of just being a cold-blood killer. I like Rictor and Shatterstar a lot, and their relationship cracks me up sometimes. I guess it's not for everyone, but I like the changes. I don't know how I feel about Alan Scott yet, but I may like it eventually. :)

Hopefully this person had a mislead with news, because I would rather it be a different character like wally or someone. Plus not that many people even know who Alan Scott is that aren't into comics. It actually took me a second to think of who it was since I honestly have never read a Green Lantern book. As for Iconic they should go with someone pretty much a lot of people know.

@xxCellPhoneGirlxx: He is the 1st Green Lantern. I consider that to be pretty iconic. I think it's be a shame if that changed a major character just to change them. I think people would go berserk if it was Wally West.

I thought it was going to be Superboy or Tim Drake. I'm good that its going to be Alan Scott because he doesnt really have an iconic girlfriend or wife.

Making Superman or Batman gay would be insane because of their iconic relationships.

But with Tim Drake or Alan Scott, its a much more natural transition.

    @InnerVenom123: Elaborate on that "yeah".

Yeah meaning I guess they don't exist anymore.

There's a lot of gay men with kids... Some of which were in the closet and married to a woman before they came out. Him having children is still 100% plausible.

Down Low storyline??...........Hell, I'd read it

This all just one big gimmick.

At least for marvel they are just taking a character who was gay from the beginning and just gave spotlight. what dc seems to be doing is retconned an iconic character (he is the first green lantern, he is iconic wheter ou like it or not) just because. It's not even like dc has no gay characters, they could have gave midnighter, apollo or even batwoman more attentionand accomplish the same thing without pissing off fans and without getting rid off obsidian one dc's more well known gay characters whose relationship with his dad is important part of his character. I know this is a reboot to bring in new readers but this is not ultimate marvel where they could do anything they want with the cahracters as it was created entirely as an alternative for new readers to get into without doing research over ons of backstroy. This is a reboot of the main dc universe, which means it should try to compromise between new and old readers, what they doing is rectonning a long time character just to bring in more readers. I am all up for gay rights in fact i even like characters such as wiccan and hukling, midnighter and apollo and even loved the role question in the 52 comics and i don't see why they couldn't just give their already gay characters more spotlight instead of alienating long time fans of the character.

Main DC universe? Alan Scott has always been a character on Earth-2 which is a different universe than Earth Prime.
