    Glory found Ruin

Being the sister series to Promethea, it may be best to have read Promethea first.  With Promethea laying out the occult concepts Alan Moore enjoys, the symbols in Glory may be easier to understand.  On the superficial level, this issue is a trip.  Gloriana wakes up in Gloria's body after a wild night of sex.  Gloriana does some Superhero things and returns Gloria her body.  While separated the 10 of Swords (Ruin) confronts Gloriana and gives her a warning.   Much like how Promethea was dependent on the Major arcana to lead the narration of the story, Glory seems to be using the minor arcana and the current suit is the Swords.

As mentioned in the review for issue #1, swords are an air symbol and can mean good things like Strength or bad this like suffering.  In the case of this issue it is bad because it deals with the 10 of Swords. Archetype-wise the 10 of Swords is "Ruin".  With the 10 of Swords there tends to be a "Divorce" of something, like a separation of life for example.

Moore beautifully works in the idea of divorcing his Glory back into just Gloria and Gloriana.  The two were once one and now they are not.

Also in the main comic, there was again the embedded feature.  Marat Mychael doing the art chores for the main story, while Matt Martin illustrates the Glory comic "Tied Down By The Temptress Of Torment".  The major set back to this two artist idea is that the art from the guest artist is better then the main-series's art.  Mychael's art is not horrible, but for good-girl art Matt Martin does it better.  Tied Down By The Temptress Of Torment is a fun Golden Age style story, complete with Thought Bubbles.

I am sad that Glory was never continued after this issue, but Promethea was and remains I high water mark in comics.  Ulitmately Glory is not a must series, but it is a great companion series to Promethea.  I will keep my many copies of Glory around, since the covers looks great and the interior story is not bad at all.

    Cheers
