Akira Toriyama was the creator and writer for Dragonball-Dragonball Z. Akira Toriyama created the series Dragonball: about a young boy named Goku and his friends, Bulma, Krillin, Yamcha etc. in their adventures to search for the seven magical dragon balls. Once the Dragonball series was over (ended with Goku defeating King Piccolo). Akira Toriyama continued the series (known as Dragonball Z in the US) about Goku when he is an adult and in this series it reveals that Goku is actually a Saiyan (an ape-like powerful alien from planet Vegeta) and not human which explains why he is so powerful. Akira Toriyama wanted to end the Dragonball Z series with Freeza (english version Frieza) but the fans asked for more so he continued to write more and more stories and he decided to end it in the Cell Saga but the fans still wanted more so he ended Dragonball Z in the Majin Buu Saga where Goku defeated the most powerful villian in DBZ (next to Janemba).

Toriyama's other works include the Japanese favorite Dr. Slump, Cowa!, Kajika, Sand Land, Neko Majin and a children's book Toccio the Angel. He has also done design work for video games such as Dragon Warrior (better known as Dragon Quest), Chrono Trigger and Tobal No. 1.

He passed away at the age of 68 on March 1st of 2024, due to an acute subdural hematoma, his death didn't go public until March 8th of 2024.
