    Aeetes was reportedly a son of Helius, the Sun God and Perseis the Oceanid. He was a sibling to (among others) Circe and Pasiphae. He became King of Colchis in area in what is currently the country of Georgia.  
     
    The Argonauts sailed to his kingdom in an attempt to gain the Golden Fleece. They left with both the Fleece and his young daughter Medea.
