Fear is now something to adventure into.
Starting with issue 10, Fear becomes Adventure into Fear, and starts out with a leading feature of the Man-Thing, followed by two other short stories, similar to the short horror tales of previous issues.
Prior to now, there was little to distinguish Fear from any other horror title, and the backup stories are about the same as ever. But in the Man-Thing, the book now has a star who really does steal the limelight. While this is still Man-Thing in his initial draft, written by Gerry Conway, we can see the raw vegetation that will coalesce into the original, edgy creation of Steve Gerber in the near future - and, as an added bonus, the art is done by a young Howard Chaykin!
After the Man-Thing story, the other stories are, frankly, anti-climactic, with one (There's Something Strange about Mister Jones) being downright predictable.
You might want to pass on Fear, but adventure into Adventure into Fear. The Man-Thing story makes it worth it.
