A Real Dog
And so it begins... the "Superman Family", before we even get a Supergirl we get a Superdog.
And that's what this issue is, a super dog.
Nevermind that (like people) dogs on Krypton evolved to look and behave exactly like dogs on Earth.
Or the extreme coincidence of the one puppy that happened to belong to Kal-El also being launched into space before the destruction of Krypton, and also making it's way to Earth - Smallville as a matter of fact.
And the fact that the dog was named Krypto (really, who on Earth names their dog Eartho?)
The story is just silly - every step of the way.
And for those who love Curt Swan's art, and think that's going to save this issue... guess again - unless you like googly-eyed cartoon dogs that leave Tom-and-Jerry style silhouettes in brick walls when they bust through them - I recommend avoiding this issue. In fact do your best to avoid Krypto stories entirely - the only really good one I can recall is the Alan Moore Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow story, but Krypto fans would probably hate that story especially.
Oh, well. Perhaps there's a good Super-dog story elsewhere - I'm not going to hold my breath though.
