    An ironic twist for Superman.

For myself Action Comics# 900 was a highly anticipated event that I strictly followed from Action Comics #890. I can’t stress enough as to how Paul Cornell introduced something new with Lex Luthor after giving us a long and challenging gauntlet for Lex Luthor to face before facing his final opponent, Superman.

My greatest fear for this issue was that we would be introduced into another grueling fist-fight between both hero and villain or that it would be ended improperly like many Marvel events. Yet, I was amazed as to how my fears for Lex Luthor’s quest was safely handled in the hands of Paul Cornell and how he gave something new within this issue alone.

For years and years of seeing both Superman and Lex Luthor going at it, we not only get to see something new, but something very ironic as it is Superman himself who’s standing in the shoes of Lex Luthor. Meaning that we get to see Superman looking up at Lex Luthor who now holds a power that Superman has always desired and desperately fought for, the power to give world peace and happiness.

But as to what happens next is entirely up to you if you decide to buy this issue or not. Personally I would say that not only this issue alone is a must have, but the entire collection of the Black Ring is a must have for some serious DC collectors.

I could see how some who haven’t followed the Black Ring storyline would be lost with this issue, which is of course expected and something that I can’t judge against this issue. But there are two things that I can say, starting with the fact that this issue didn’t need to be crammed with additional storylines that rarely captured any interest and completely separate from the main storyline. Something that Marvel has always been successful with their crammed issues and yet this almost-100-page issue didn’t quite catch up with Marvel’s massive 600 issues. But the biggest complaint that I can share is how the Reign of Doomsday was just thrown in this issue and completely threw many people off. Obviously people who have been reading Action Comics recently expected only Lex Luthor and Superman, only one major storyline. But instead we got the Black Ring bunking alongside with Reign of Doomsday in the same storyline with little, and I do mean very little connection.

Aside from what was mentioned, I know that this issue alone didn’t reach it’s full five-stars. But seeing how this 96 special issue did manage to give a proper ending for Lex Luthor’s quest, I can’t help but give this issue no less than four and a half star rating.

As a major fan of Lex Luthor, and the Black Ring storyline, couldn’t help but participate in a massive video review alongside with others on this site. Plus i'm shocked as to how this issue is my 100th review. Thankyou for reading and I do hope you enjoy the video.
