    Vandal your such a Savage

Wow! Paul Cornell has turned Action Comics into a heavily talked about book.  On the internet and at my LCS.  His BBC roots shine in every issue.  Yep I love BBC TV.  The covers by Finch everymonth are beautiful and the interior art work has been near perfect.  Sean Chen's fill- in issue included.  We had Death in making an appearance in the previous two issues so what can this team do to follow that high note??

Well they bring out Vandal Savage and we get to see his connection to the Black Lantern energy that Lex is after.  Cornell brings us through time with Vandal and we get to see his and Lex's relationship in what I feel is a new light.  The story telling technique that is employed works beautifully and the issue is well paced.  Cornell is a rising star in the comic book world and month after month Action Comics' main feature shows you why.

The Jimmy Olsen co-feature has been an out of the park winner too.  Nick Spencer, yet another rising star, has a great handle on the fun and exciting world that Jimmy lives in.  I love his Indie work and am darn glad to see him at DC taking on characters that I love and bringing me some new to me.

Art on the main and back up feature in this issue are both beautiful.  The action and panel structure add to each story.  I do prefer Pete Woods' style to Silva's but both do their respective stories justice.  JUSTICE....oh wait that was another book.

4.5 stars and a strong buy recommendation.  Here's hoping that Paul's run goes on for many many issues.

(This review and other comics blogging can be found at www.comicplanetindustries.com)   If you’re not reading this book, you are missing out. Paul Cornell has taken one of the most complex characters in comics (and also one of the easiest to screw up) and is handling him masterfully. In case you’re unaware, while JMS is putting people to sleep with Superman’s walkabout, Cornell has made Action Comics Lex Luthor’s domain. Following his taste of the Orange Lantern’s power in Blackest Night, Lex ha...

      Savage Action 0

The Good: The beginning was a really neat montage to set up the issue. We got to see a chunk of Vandal Svage's life and interaction with Luthor over the years. We finally get a bit more of definition of the contraints of this story arc, and a better sense of direction. Some more depth of Luthor's character. The way Luthor completely avoids the carefully planned out climax, and the way Cornell puts in the tiny clues to let you know why he knew to do that without telling you is brilliant. The Co-F...
