This is a standard Superman story that is fairly entertaining. Simone does admirable work in telling a tale of a strange character who seems to be very interested in controlling magnetism. Gail's Superman is only a tiny bit 2D. The real nice element of this comic is John Byrne. His style looks just as nice in a comic from 2005 as it does in one from 1985. His work has a classic feel that doesn't look as dated as some might expect and that's a testament to the support he has in his colorer and inker. Dr. Polaris is a great villain and it's nice to see him as well. The twist ending while somewhat unexpected isn't exactly jaw-dropping. All in all, this is a good comic to pass the time, and a fine Superman story that while it probably won't stick in your mind as a say something like "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" might, it works well as some good entertainment.
