    Action Comics #29 (2014) Review

The Good: This book looks so beautiful. Kuder does an amazing job really making all of the characters their own characters. And the monsters are so inventively wonderful and feel real coming off the pages. He's really the unsung hero here.

Pak is also fantastic. He continues to make Superman stories that are bigger than the smash-fest that the rest of DC (sans Scott Snyder) seem to do. He's got the best Superman-featured Superman book (again, beside Unchained) out there right now. He nails what Superman is about. He nails what Clark is about. And his interactions in this issue are really fantastic, whether they be with Lana, Baka, Ghost Soldier, etc.

The Bad: There was a degree of drag in this one. It was for suspense and to some degree required, but not a lot happened in this issue. We really had one big fight and some smatterings of development with Lana and the villains to come in the next arc (I suspect they will be, anyways). It wasn't a horrible thing to pace it the way that they did, but I did kind of feel like enough didn't happen. It was a fast read. I guess I'm complaining that there wasn't more Pak/Kuder goodness in this one.

The Verdict: Another great issue from the Pak/Kuder run. They do an amazing job a capturing who Clark is on the inside, instead of all the things that he can do with his fists. Can't say enough about the quality of the art, and I can't say enough about how much I love Pak's take on the characters. He's made Lana a great character for his run and I'm hoping that we'll see a return in the future for some of the other characters that we'll be leaving behind, and I look forward to the next issue, which immediately will go to the top of my read-pile when it's released.

Story After Superman, Lana and Ghost Soldier helped the creatures escape, the creatures go wild as they are exposed to the sunlight. But now Superman must face Ghost Soldier as this goes on and there’s another threat watching him.The GoodSuperman is really blowing down the house here. I really like how Superman gets mad because he shows people to not mess with him. He really shows how powerful he can get and it’s really cool to see all that. What I also like is that we get to see Sup...

There have been many great Superman writers since Superman was created, but few have understood Superman as much as the John Bryne, Mark Waid, Alan Moore and, of course, Jerry Seigels of the comicbook writing pantheon. Greg Pak, after this issue, inches his way ever closer to joining this legendary list of writers. Action Comics # 29 is great, but so was Action Comics 25-28, what makes AC29 better is that it represents the quintessential essence of Superman. If Superman you're not a fan of t...
