Is Lex Luthor the Main Character of Action Comics Again?

The Good: I have absolutely no idea why, but I can't stop gushing over how amazing Rags Morales artwork is in this series. Everything has exactly the right amount of force and weight. The action is ACTION. And everything else is action waiting to happen.
Good god does Morrison write a great Lex Luthor. THIS is EXACTLY the kind of Lex Luthor who makes me like reading Superman. And the fact that he's early Luthor makes him more interesting. His wild conspiracy theories, and casual in-control attitude make him such an engaging character you'd almost swear he was right and Superman really WAS the villain.
The added depth to the whole Krypton technology is extremely interesting and beautifully well written. It hadn't even crossed my mind until it showed up in this issue, and now the depth of it is driving me nuts.
All the little things are important. Lois Lane and her father play a huge part in the subplot, and already rereading issue 1 after this opened my eyes to more things in the first issue.
The finale? SO EPIC. I don't even know where to begin.

The Bad: I felt that the John Henry Irons cameo was a tiny bit forced.
The issue was too short for a $3.99. They replaced the extra story pages with behind-the-scenes stuff, which was kind of cool, but not a proper replacement.

    In Conclusion: 4.5/5
I would've LOVED to bump this up to a 5/5. The actual story part of this issue was phenomenal and basically flawless. BUT, the cutting of story for special features was unforgivable. But that's no reason not to get this issue. It's AMAZING. Morrison is doing a fantabulous job at redefining Superman. I haven't loved a Superman comic this much since.... well.... All-Star Superman... But even so, this isn't that. It's a whole new thing.

The Story: Superman escapes from military custody. My Thoughts:This second issue of the series offers readers something we've never really seen before while reading a Superman comic. Grant Morrison continues to surprise and keep readers on the edge of their seats with his interpretation of the early years of Superman's crime fighting career. We once again see a vulnerable Superman who is able to be physically hurt in other ways than kryptonite or magic. I like this approach a lot. Personally I f...

We’re now two issues into what is, hands down, my favorite series of the DCnU and I’m still just as enthusiastic as I was last month. The thing I like best about Morrison’s new take on Superman is how the Man of Steel is almost always in motion. One of my major criticisms of Straczynski’s take on Superman was that he was talking (and mostly lecturing) rather than doing. This Action Comics’ Superman always seems to be doing something and its usually iconic feats of strength. It lends to impressiv...
