Superman going back to his roots

     Cover

I picked this issue at whim. I always liked Superman but I never could get into Action Comics or his own series because there were so many issues and I never knew where to start. But now with the reboot happening I took my chances and picked up this issue because I saw that I would not be lost because on the cover it says issue 1. I also really like Superman’s costume for the cover. It is different from the usual Superman costume but not drastically different. I think jeans look good on Superman.

    Story

The government is trying to stop Superman because he seems too strong and they are scared of him. But the people of the city love him because he has been saving their lives.

    Best Part

As I said for the cover portion of my review I have always wanted to get into Superman but I never knew where to start. So, I am glad I picked this issue up so I could start reading Superman. In this issue we get to see a new Superman but not a total different character. Superman in this series is a little like he use to be when he started his career just wanting save peoples lives while working at the Daily Planet. People were upset that Lois and Clark were not married in this series and I was one of those people. But as I read this first issue it seems like there may be a chance that we can see Lois and Clark together we are just going to have to wait a while because this is how the story of Superman started in the first place. They did not start out married in the Superman series but we saw their relationship grow as I think we will see in this series. Right now Lois Lane is saying Clark Kent who but I do not think she will be saying that for long. Also I noticed something that I did not even think of. In this issue Clark’s landlord says two men and a blonde woman came to say hey. We do not know who those people are but my guess and hope it could be Chloe Sullivan. Wouldn’t it be the perfect time to add her into the series? They tried with that Jimmy Olsen series to bring Chloe in to comics. So, it is not like Dc has not been thinking about Chloe coming into comics. So, I can’t wait to see what happens with that.

    Worst Part

There was no worst part in this story.

    Art

I really liked the art for this series. It was not sketchy and it just seemed perfect for Superman. I also really loved the action scenes for this issue. Especially the last action scene where Superman tries to save a run away train. You can see Clark ears bleeding and him in pain ,which I thought was very different to see. I really liked that scene.

    Pick it up or not

    Pick it up!!!

      A New Golden Age 0

I’ve waited a long time for this issue. I’ve engaged in a lot of smack talk leading up to it. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how Grant Morrison’s Action Comics #1 actually turned out. This is the Golden Age version of Superman perfectly updated for our modern world. Superman is acting as a social crusader for an economy in recession just as the first version of Superman did for the 1930’s depression. He really shows himself to be the “Champion of the Oppressed” once again in one memorable scen...

      Morrison Has Done It! 0

On one level, DC has already succeeded with their New 52 initiative – at least for month one.   I have about 4 Superman comics from the late 1990s (or early 2000s) and I think they were all gifts.   Other than reading The Death Of Superman in elementary school I’ve never been a reader of Superman.   Yet, here I am reading Action Comics #1.   Sure, part of that is Grant Morrison’s name, but it’s also partly due to the fact that they’re retooling him into being less of a tool.   As he was until n...
