I've been told who a character was who has defeated Zeus, but i've went nuts trying to remember who it was.

That was mythology Zeus. Not Marvel Zeus. The closest thing that's happened was his sinews were ripped out by Typhon, but that didn't really injure him.

Marvel has been owned by Arishem the Judge and Amatsu-Mikaboshi.

The only reason Marvel's Zeus was defeated by Mikaboshi at all was because Greg Pak had already decided that Mikaboshi was the Chaos King. If that wasn't the case, then by right the Almighty Thunderer and King of the Heavens would have decimated the invading Japanese hordes. Thunderbolts that easily humble Thor coupled with mystical and cosmic energies rivaling Odin should have been applied properly in the 2006 Ares storyline but because Pak had already decided beforehand who Mikaboshi REALLY WAS we got what we got in Ares.

Zeus is still my favourite deity.

Umm...Oeming wrote Mikaboshi killing Zeus way before anything about the Chaos King was even hinted at. The reason Zeus was ineffective was to get around a problem with the skyfathers...they are so powerful compared to the rest of their pantheons you either have to come up with almost plot reasons or water down their power levels to tell any story with them. Oeming did it with Zeus and Pak did it during his Hercules run. Odin has suffered the same fate at times as well.

That said, Oeming was one of the few writers at at lest offer an explanation. In this case Mikaboshi had powerful black magics Zeus was not familiar with to counter his powers.

Dc Zeus is much more powerful. He is between the 3-4 most powerful character there with Shazam and some others..

Marvel is a little different from mythological one, which was the beyond every level.. Zeus mythology and generally 12 Olympians from ancient greece is much more interesting and more attractive for me.. it has a lot of love and battles there. Generally there, there is not something could threaten Zeus. On the other hand marvel zeus has been beaten by the Chaos KIng seekquaze explain it very well!

@john_black: I'm not sure if DC Zeus is more powerful. From what I've heard DC generally keeps their Olympians as more aloof beings which prevents them from having to be lowered to deal with mortals. Their focus on Zeus is also sort of like Marvel's focus on Odin. They are the ones featured in stories so they are the ones with all the feats. In some stories Olympians rely on worship for power which has caused other gods to rival or surpass Zeus. Following that, if an alien god had billions of worshippers on countless worlds that god would be more powerful than Zeus. Nothing I seen or heard DC Zeus doing sounds like it puts him beyond Marvel Zeus or Odin.

I find Marvel Zeus to be very similar to how I would imagine the mythological Zeus. The main difference of course is in Greek mythology Zeus is supreme because they are the only set of gods in that collection of stories. In Marvel, Zeus shares the stage so he had equals and superiors. I honestly find the Norse gods more interesting than the Greek gods. The giants are an actually threat to them so the gods have to be smarter or stronger. It is hard for the Olympians to be heroic when nothing really threatens them. I think that may be why they come across as children at play during the Trojan War.

It is true that Zeus is Dc favorite. He is the ruler of Lords of Magic. His power and authority supersedes that of the other members of Lords of Magic. He is the ultimate magic being! He is above all so it is impossible to act or appear between mortals or superheroes. This is the reason he has almost no feats at DC. Every adventure with him would lower his fame.

On the other hand Marvel zeus because of the involvement in human world, is needed to appears closer to superheroes' power than these of a God. The marvel writers try to put together Greek mythology with the unique human being feelings, passion behaviors and the supremacy of the Gods but they don't understand the substance, so they represent something lower than this in real Greek mythology and sometimes the result is hilarious.

Don't forget that in real Greek mythology Gods have human desires and passions but they are so powerful that they don't take part in battles but bless or give powers to heroes or semi-gods to fight and they wager. The battles they have take part have changed the appearance of the word, islands have disappeared and other have been appeared. like the "War of the Titans".

In contrast they have succeed to present the superiority of Norse gods and they print better the characters.

So in Dc universe the Zeus is the top Magic ruler.

In Marvel universe is almost equal to Odin , he is member of the Great Powers of the Universe, the Council of Godheads, the Darkest Army and he rules the universe with other immortal beings he is more a member of God teams than the Superior God.

I think you might be getting versions of Zeus mixed up. From what I have been told by DC Fans the Lords of Magic are different from their mythological namesakes. DC originally had Olympians Zeus empower Shazam, switched to a different being with the same name, and went back to Olympian Zeus. Of course, one problem with DC is they tend to do massive retcons and What If?s that are in continuity more so than Marvel so it is difficult to keep track.

I perfectly understand what you are talking about when you mention gods having to be lowered to face mortals. The old Xena series had one story arc that has been ridiculoed by making the formerly reality-warping Olympians forget all of their powers, and intelligence, in dealing with Xena making them easy targets. The GOW games suffer from this in Zeus' dealings with Kratos. The Percy Jackson books and especially their sequels are forced to lower gods or godlike beings so their special powers do not instability overwhelm the hero.

I understand you cannot have either the Olympians or Asgardians as supreme beings in a universe like Marvel. It does not work for a slew of reasons. Why would the Olympians or Asgardians be superior to other Earth pantheons? Why would they be more important on a universal scale than say the gods of the Shi'ar? The universal abstracts are closer to supreme beings in Marvel and it works better because the Olympians are regulated mainly to Earth.

I wouldn't say Marvel has done the best job of presenting the supposed superiority of the Norse gods. They do have better appearences because they have far more, but each decade comes across as degrading them more and more. Back in the sixties they were truly advanced beings with superior power, technology, magic, and knowledge of the universe. Odin had concerns on a universal scale. Each decade they have gotten reduced more and more. The JMS revamp lowered them the most by making them backword hicks stuck in the Dark Ages with somewhat delusions of grander. SIEGE was in many ways the final nail in the coffin. Heck, on several message boards I visited the complaints of Thor being thrown under the bus to make the latest threat look good were higher than ever. It got so bad even some posters who hated him began to feel sorry for the character.

I think DC Zeus is in a lot of ways like Marvel's Odin in he is the go to top god thanks to his connection to a flagship character. That gives the impression he might be more important or powerful than he is. But Marvel's Odin isn't really a great power of the universe. At least not anymore. The Council of Godheads represents Earth's pantheons and Odin appears to be a leader among it. But Jason Aaron introduced the Parliament of Pantheons which represents gods across the universe. Odin is barely more than a footnote to them which makes sense. His influence is confined mainly to Earth and the nine worlds of Norse cosmology. He does not have the far ranging influence of gods whose presence has been felt for far longer and over a much wider area.

Is there anything about DC Zeus to suggest he is superior to Darkseid, Highfather, or DC Odin? From what I've been told he is more or less their equal just like Marvel Zeus is more or less the equal to Marvel Odin.

The Chaos King has defeated Marvel's Zeus and so has Sky-father Hercules.
