    Origins

Zayne was from the planet Pheada. The son of Arvan and Reiva Carrick, an unknown Jedi Master found Zayne accidentally, and brought him to Dantoonie to test out his Force powers. He was trained by Master Vandar Takore there. During the Mandalorian Wars, Zayne Carrick was just accepted into the ranks of the Jedi on Taris. He wasn't the best Padawan there was, as Jedi Master Vandar Tokare described his Force powers as "marginal" however, he also noted that natural ability to form close friendships with his fellow Padawans. Zayne made friends with Shad Jelavan, Kamlin, Oojoh, and Gharn. Later, he was appointed the Jedi Master Lucien Draay As a Padawan on Taris, and there he found an attraction to his best friend sister, Shel Jelavan.

During his time on Taris, Zayne ran across a black-marketeer named Gryph who he tried to apprehend many of times. He also met another Padawan who introduced himself only as Squint. He supported Zayne and gave him some advice: "sometimes you have to enter the dark to save the light." Unknown to him, Q'Anilia felt a disturbance in the Force. She told the other Jedi Masters of the Covenant, and so the Jedi Masters feared that all their Padawans may fall to the dark side.

    Commencement

The Jedi Covenant feared that their worst fears would come true - that all the Padawans would fall to the dark side. So they took desperate measures, by appointing the Padawans a mission, which they had to complete on Taris' rogue moon by locating their Masters amidst the moon's perpetual meteor bombardment, blinded by their visor's blast shields. However, Zayne was last to complete the task, and felt that his chances of become a Jedi were slim. Once they had completed it, the Jedi Masters called them for a banquet and a ceremony to promote the Padawans.

On the day of the ceremony, Zayne was running late as he was chasing after a con artist Snivvian named Gryph. After failing to capture Gryph, Zayne crashed the ceremony and had to pay for the damages. As Zayne was paying for the damages, he saw Gryph again, and chased after him and finally caught him, at the cost of being late for the ceremony. Leaving Gryph outside the Jedi temple, Zayne arrived to see his friends slain on the floor with his masters standing over them, lightsabers drawn. Zayne realized what the Jedi Masters had done, and quickly escaped with Gryph to the Lower City of Taris. Zayne's Master, Lucien Draay decided to frame him for the Jedi Covenant actions and put a bounty on both him and Gryph, stating that Zayne turned to the Dark side and murdered the Padawans.

With Zayne and Gryph in the Lower City, they made their way to Junk Junction to seek help by a mechanic named Camper. When they arrived, the two but were attacked by Camper's friend, the Arkanian offshoot named, Jarael. Both Camper and Jarael refused to help the two due to Gryph having to fail to pay back Camper from last time, and Zayne's role in having the Swoop bike company, Lhosan Industries transfered off Taris after the Padawan Massacre, but was forced to help when both The Jedi Covenant and Taris task force, led by Constable Noana Sowrs appeared. Camper and Jarael led them onto their ship, the Last Resort and fled into space, but as soon as they came out the atmosphere, The Last Resort had broken down in the astroid belt around Taris and were stationed there until repairs could be completed.

While everyone went to sleep, Zayne made a call to Master Vandar and told him about the massacre. Vandar believed Zayne, but he had his suspicions, and speculated that Zayne had killed the Padawans himself. He advised Zayne to contact one of the Jedi Consulars on Taris. During the call, he was knocked out by Jarael. As Zayne came to, he realized that out of his masters with the exception of Lucien, were consulars on Taris and the same masters who performed the massacre. He decided that he should investigate on Taris' rogue moon along with Jarael to look for clues about this massacre, and in the hopes of proving that he wasn't the killer. On the moon, Zayne finds a damaged robot called T1-LB, also known as "Elbee". Elbee tells Zayne that he had accidently fallen off a cliff, but Zayne realized that the masters had pushed him off as he was present during the Jedi Trials. Before Zayne can grab anymore information, Lucien, Noana Sowrs and the rest of the force arrived.

Thanks to the timing of Gryph and Camper, Zayne and Jarael made it back onto the ship and transfered Elbee's memory core into another droid. Zayne asks Elbee to tell him the last of what happened through his recordings and holograms. Elbee's holograms show the Jedi Masters, apart from Lucien have a vision where a Sith in red armour would kill them all. As soon as Zayne discovers the truth behind the masters' actions, The Last Resort was pulled in by a tractor beam from the Oroko, which was owned by the bounty hunter Valius Ying. After some negotiations, Valius allowed the others, except Zayne, to be let free. Zayne's bounty was too high for him to be let go, so Gryph and Zayne made an escape plan, where the guard guarding them would be distracted while Zayne would make a run for the Last Resort. Jarael intervenes and tells him that there is nothing wrong with running, though endangering the lives of others while doing so is not right. With no other choice, Zayne decides to surrender to the Jedi Masters. Up at the Jedi Tower where Zayne was brought by Valius, Lucien revealed what happened before Zayne arrived at the ceremony on how Shal's suspicions that Zayne was to be promoted to a Jedi had caused the Jedi Masters to act originally than planned. Lucien was ready to finish Zayne off, but not before killing Valius who had discovered too much. Just before Lucien is about to execute Zayne, a "Sith" in a red space suit, the one in The Jedi Masters vision, crashed in the room with Zayne's lightsaber. It was revealed that the "Sith" turned out to be Jarael, and came to rescue Zayne. A few weeks after Zayne's escape, he calls the Jedi Masters, warning them that he had a vision of his own and that four of them now had the death mark and the Jedi Master who survived would confess to their crimes.

    Flashpoint

On the run from the Jedi, Zayne and his friends hid on the planet of Vanquo on a mining colony where they had to steal for food by setting up different scenarios. One time, Zayne was begging for food for his "family". Jarael then contacted the mining colony pretending to be the Jedi Master Q'Anilia, warning them of a Mandalorian attack. The miners were not convinced, but Zayne used the Jedi mind trick to made them think that the Mandalorians were going to attack. Everyone was in evacuation mode and allowed Zayne to use the frenzy to his advantage to steal the food without anyone questioning his actions. However, it turned out that the Mandalorians did actually attack. Because she was disgused as a Jedi, Jarael was captured, and Camper, Gryph, Elbee and Zayne made their way towards the ship and had to hold off the Mandalorians so they could take off. However, one Mandalorian named Rohlan Dyre managed to get onto the ship. Zayne held him down while Camper stunned him with Jarael's electrostaff. With Rohlan locked in the storage compartment, he tells Zayne that they will need him if they wish to rescue her. They continue with their plan, and fly to Flashpoint Station where Rohlan brings Zayne to Demagol, a highly respected Mandalorian. There, they knock out Demagol out and Zayne takes his armour. The both of them release Jarael from her cell, though she attacked him. Zayne convinced her that he was in disguise. As Rohlan and Zayne disguised as Demagol walk towards the Last Resort, Elbee finished planting the mines and Gryph, disguised as a Republic Admiral warns the Mandalorians that the bombs will go off. The Mandalorians flee and with them all gone, they leave Flashpoint Station.

    Reunion

Money was becoming an issue, so Gryph devised a plan to get the money from Gryph's bank account. By dressing up as nobility and going under fake names, Jarael and Camper almost get the money from the bank assistant named Arvan, though the bank assistant gets kidnapped by the Moomo Brothers. Zayne learns that the bank assistant was actually his father. Gryph finds out where he is taken to thanks to his connections, and he plans that he will distract the Moomo Brothers and Zayne will save his father. As Zayne rescues his father, he finds out that a Jedi named Raana Tey had used Zayne's father to bring him out of hiding. He also found out that the bankers were working with the Jedi Covenant, giving them information to zone in on Zayne. After saving his father, Zayne had requested some money and got him to go to Dantoonie with Master Vandar.

Days of Fear, Nights of Anger

Zayne and Gryph thank Jarael and Camper for the help and tell them they have to part ways, but before leaving, Camper gives Zayne some vambraces made from the expensive metal known as phrik. The duo continue their adventure as Gryph asks someone named Slyssk to steal a ship for them. Slyssk tells them to meet up on Pad 223, but as they do, they also find that the owners of the stolen ship near the landing pad as well. With that, they take off with ship earlier than expected. On the ship, the three of them learn that their new ship, the Little Bivoli was apart of a Republic fleet and was a resturant. With no choice, they were forced to follow The Republic fleet to the planet, Serroco. When they arrived to Serroco, Gryph wasted little time on making a profit with the Little Bivoli using Slyssk and Zayne as workers. While serving food, Zayne met Lieutenant Carth Onasi. After the busy times serving food, Zayne has an argument with Gryph and decides to calm himself down by stepping outside ship. There, he has a Force vision where he sees the Mandalorians wipe the whole planet out. He urges Gryph to leave, though he could not leave with Gryph because he had his own business. He aboards the ship which Carth Onasi flies and explains to him about the massacre he saw in his vision, asking him to take him to Admiral Saul Karath on aboard the bridge of the Courageous, the lead ship of the Republic fleet. As Zayne is on the bridge he begs Karath to listen to him, but Karath was convinced that Zayne was not only responsible for the Jedi Massacre on Taris, but also a Manadalorian spy. As Karath continues to interrogate Zayne, the fleet gets attacked by the Mandalorians with nuclear missiles, which were used to bomb the planet of Serroco. Afterward, Zayne is thrown into a holding cell for the time being.

Later, the Mandalorians hijack the ship, The Couerageous and kill everyone on the ship, except Saul, Carth and Zayne who manages to escape on Carth's ship, the Deadweight. Saul then informs Zayne that they plan to go to where his old master Lucien was meeting with, Lord Adasca, along with listening to Adasca as he may have a way of ending the Mandalorian Wars.

    Daze of Hate

The Deadweight went aboard Adasca's ship, the Arkanian Legacy and Zayne had spotted Jarael. Jarael kissed him, but only to give him information about Camper. Zayne was then taken to a holding cell surrounded by HK-24 droids, and and found Lucien Draay captured as well. The two worked together to take out the droids however, but at a clear moment, Lucien almost killed Zayne when he got hold of his lightsaber. Zayne was protected by the vambraces Camper gave him earlier and lived. the two decided to set their differences aside and planned to escape together. The both of them learned that Adasca was allying himself with Mandalore the Ultimate and planning on selling exogorths to turn the tide of the war. Later, the two met up with Carth and Rohlan. Carth had managed to bring Zayne his lightsaber, and Rohlan had let Zayne borrow his spare Mandalorian armour that was given to him by Mandalore.

As a plan, Zayne walked in the allying between Adasca and Mandalore and set it up to look like it was a set up to lure Mandalore so that the Republic could capture him. It was total chaos as the people from both sides were fighting each other. Zayne went to free Jarael and the gang fought their way off the ship, escaping the ship being swallowed by exogorths. Mandalore also managed to escape, but Adasca went down with the ship. Admiral Saul commanded Carth to apprehend Zayne from escaping and managed to capture Zayne, but let him go, believing that Zayne was innoncent. After Camper left Elbee and took The Last Resort into unknown regions of space to lure the exogorths away from civilization, Zayne and his friends were trapped, until Lucien caught him just before he left and negotiated with him, saying that he would take his friends off the ship, only if he turned himself in. With no other options, Zayne agreed, though the arrival of another ship, the Moomo Williwaw had stopped Lucien from doing so. The Moomo Brothers were on board, along with Slyssk. Slyssk tells him that Gryph is still alive and fighting against the Mandalorians on Taris, which was led by Cassus Fett.

    Knights of Suffering

Zayne made his way to the Lower City of Taris, and discovered a secret entrance to the Hidden Bek base, a swoop gang of the Lower City. Zayne made his way into the base where Brejik, the adopted son of Gadon Thek, who was the leader of the Hidden Bek, had caught him, thinking he was an intruder. Zayne was brought to Gryph and Gadon Thek though the Mandalorians had attacked and caused them to retreat. In the Hidden Bek base, Zayne was healing the people that had been shot while they were retreating, and Gryph had explained what happened since he landed on Taris. While Gryph explained, he noticed a young Twi'lek and she introduced herself as Mission Vao. She told him that she was not allowed to talk to him because her brother, Griff Vao, but she wanted to show him something. As they made their way there, Brejik accused Zayne of escaping, and pulled out a blaster. Before he could shoot, Del Moomo of the Moomo brothers stopped him. However, Zayne discovered that Griff was in fact feeding Constable Noana Sowrs' children when she was deemed missing. Gadon Thek was outraged at having children hidden in the base, though he realized that maybe this could allow for some negotiations with the Taris forces.

Their next step in the plan was to go to the Resistance base. As they entered the base, Zayne saw Shel Jelavan, though she herself pointed a blaster at him. It didn't kill Zayne thanks to the equipment he was carrying, though it did knock him back. The Jedi Master, Raana Tey, who was apart of the Padawan massacre, started manipulating Shel into thinking that Zayne was now on the dark side. Del Moomo was angered with the thought of Raana Tey trying to kill his bounty, so while Raana Tey was too focused on Shel and Zayne, he tackled Shel to the ground and got her to let go of the blaster. With Zayne knocked unconscious, Raana had turned her attention to the Senator Goravvus and asked him to kill Zayne, though Gadon defended him, saying that he found the Constable's missing children, which could lead to negotiations to strengthen their forces in fighting against the Mandalorians. While Raana disagreed, Senator Goravvus agreed and allowed Zayne to live. While at the base, Zayne and Gryph attempted to disprove that Zayne had fallen to the dark side. Meanwhile, Raana was still accusing Zayne of falling to the dark side. Shel left, frustrated from both parties. They then learned that Cassus Fett had taken residence in the abandoned Jedi Tower where his base of operations were. Senator Goravvus suggested a recon mission before an assault. Zayne volunteered to lead it, though Constable Sowrs didn't like the idea. Shel had volunteered to come along, though it was really a plan by Raana to kill Zayne. Earlier, Raana had taught Shel how to put a crystal in her brother's lightsaber in case Raana had failed to kill Zayne, she would have to do it.

They commence the recon mission, with Raana Tey going through the vents of the Jedi Tower, and Zayne, disguised as a Mandalorian, pretends to take Shel hostage and go through the entrance. However, Shel was not cooperating due to still accusing Zayne of being responsbible for her brother's death. As the two continued to argue, they were spotted by a couple of Mandalorians and to avoid suspsion Shel kissed Zayne, making the Mandalorians to believe that Zayne was "recruiting". Once they were inside the temple to meet up with Raana, Shel was getting ready to kill Zayne, though their past conversation had stopped her from doing so. The two decided to split up to look for Cassus, and Zayne looked for him in the Council Chambers. There, Zayne encountered a Mandalorian Neo-crusader named, Gormer, and discovered that Cassus already left to attack the resistance. Before Gormer could question Zayne, Raana came from behind and killed the Neo-crusader. Raana still believed that Zayne had fallen to the Dark Side and decided to strike Zayne down. Zayne began to duel the Jedi Master using his jetpack to give him an advantage, but he was still no match for her, as she managed to Force push him onto the glass ceiling of the Jedi Chamber. With Zayne's jetpack disabled and his lightsaber disarmed, Raana told Zayne about the "Prophecy of the Five". As Raana was about to deliver the finishing blow, A lightersaber struck her in the back with Shel as the wielder. Raana dropped to the floor and Shel told Zayne that he believed him.

Gryph and Gadon had then come over them with their ship to pick them up. Before they could escape, Raana stood up once again to finish off Zayne. Gryph said that the explosives were set so they could blow up the Jedi Tower. Zayne offered Raana his help by holding out his hand, however, Raana at first refused, believing that the catch was that she confess to the Jedi Council that Zayne was innocent, but Zayne told her that he didn't care about that, as he doesn't want anyone else to die. As Raana tried to reach his hand, her hand was stuck on the glass from the ceiling. She had ignited her lightsaber to cut off her hand, but Gryph thought that she was going to attack Zayne, so he set off the charges, killing her. Before she was caught in the explosion, she asked Zayne to tell her master, Krynda Draay that she was sorry. As they left, Shel apologised that she wasn't able to save what seemed to be the only person to prove Zayne's innocence, though Zayne didn't see it as a total loss; he now knows a name - Krynda.

After Raana's death, Zayne and Gryph left the Taris Resistance and journeyed into the Undercity. After Gryph left the gate of the Outcasts' village open as he tried to scavenge credits, he and Zayne were both forced out of the village. Running from the Rakghouls, they then encountered the Jedi, Celeste Morne, who struck down the remaining rakghouls. Celeste walks off to complete her mission and the two continue to follow her. They then hear an explosion and realise that someone's blasting under them, which causes the floor to collapse, causing them to fall. As soon as Zayne wakes up,Gryph notes the presence of Mandalorians. They then see the Muur Talisman, and Zayne sees Pulsipher, Demagol's assistant holding it. Before Zayne can ask what that thing is, Celeste already has a jetpack on her back, and tells them to go with her, unless they want to deal with another horde of Mandalorians.

The trio boarded the Mandalorian shuttle, the Mar'eyce, and hid in the ventilation shafts, Zayne and the others overheard Pulsipher discussing their discovery, and witnessed the Muur Talisman's power at work when it seized control of him and forced him to kill one of his subordinates. When the Mandalorians arrived on the planet, Jebble, Zayne and Gryph became separated from Celeste and were mistaken as prisoners to be trained as Mandalorians. They then soon learned that the Mandalorians planed on making an attack on the planet, Alderaan. Zayne later finds Celeste telling her about the Mandalorians plan to attack Alderaan. While trying to find a way to transmit a message to the Republic, Gryph alerted the Mandalorians when his rifle went off inside the tunnel causing him to fall to a lower level of the War Forge. Before Zayne and Celeste could be taken in, however, the guards transformed into rakghouls. The pair held off the transformed soldiers, though they were baffled at the soldiers' quick transformations along with the fact that they were still able to wield blasters. Celeste then realized that by using the Muur Talisman, Pulsipher could lead to a massive infection of the rakghoul plague in the galaxy if ever let out.

While trying to find another way to contact the Republic about the oncoming attack, Celeste continued to have doubts that Zayne was a murderer as Zayne informed Celeste of the secret cabal formed by Lucien and the other masters, and he also asked about the name Krynda. Celeste denied knowing anything although she let it slip that it was called a Covenant. The two managed to find a transmitter and took turns in using it with Celeste going first. Celeste managed to make contact with the Jedi, unknown to Zayne, however, she called Lucien. Lucien ordered her to retrieve the Talisman and take it to one of the Jedi safehouses and kill Zayne. While Zayne contacted the Moormo Williwaw, Celeste drew her saber and prepared to kill him, but couldn't. Zayne then contacted Cassus to tell him about Pulsipher plans. Cassus was hesitant to believe him only to save the Republic's worlds, however, Zayne told him that he was also saving the Mandalorian worlds because, they were people as well. After talking to Cassus, Zayne went off to find Gryph, but was ambushed by two rakghouls and was taken to Pulsipher. As Pulsipher tried to interrogate Zayne on information for the Talisman, the Talisman suddenly detached itself from Pulsipher and went after Zayne, due to his Force sensitivity. The rakghouls then turned on Pulsipher and Celeste attempted to take control of the talisman before it could attach itself to Zayne, although he protested that he might be able to control the rakghouls with it. Celeste ordered the Talisman to come to her and immediately she was overwhelmed by the Sith Lord that inhabited the Talisman, Karness Muur. Gryph then arrived and released Zayne from his restraints and as they rushed to her aid, but she had already realized that she was controlling the rakghouls.

Quickly, Celeste was becoming corrupted by Karness Muur's influence and began to transform the Mandalorians stationed on Jebble. While Celeste was distracted, Gryph revealed to Zayne that Celeste was an agent working for the Covenant along with Krynda Draay, Lucien's mother, confirming Zayne's suspicions. Celeste became enraged at them for questioning her devotion to the Covenant. As Celeste was about to deal with the two of them, Zayne informed her that she was only assisting the Sith, the faction she had sworn to protect the galaxy against. Celeste managed to break free from the Talisman's influence and asked Zayne to strike her down. However, he could not do it, but presented a better solution. Zayne took Celeste to Pulsipher's laboratory to have her temporarily sealed inside the oubliette. As Celeste got in, Celeste gave Zayne her key, and asked him to take her to the planet Odryn that contained all sorts of Sith artifacts, and the help she needs. Before sealing the oubliette, Celeste told Zayne that she believed that Zayne was innocent and told him to reach Krynda to tell her about what really happened on Taris, believing Krynda would never have allowed the Covenant to do such an act. With the Muur Talisman's influence sealed, the rakghouls began to become rampart and started to attack Zayne and Gryph. Luckily, The Moomo brothers came with their ship carrying Jarael, Alek, Rohlan, Slyssk, Shel, arrived after delivering Constable Sowrs' children to their father. However, Zayne was not yet ready to leave, as he still planned to retrieve Celeste when Cassus Fett's fleet arrived in the system. Cassus fired nuclear warheads onto the surface, wiping out the rakghouls and apparently, Celeste as well. Zayne was devastated at the apparent loss of Celeste, but felt motivated again now that he had a lead to end the Covenant. Zayne asked Alek if he would help, and Shel assured him that they would all help him. His first course of action was to travel to Odryn.

    Exalted

Zayne's first action in clearing his name was finding evidence to present against the Jedi Covenant, so he traveled to the planet Odryn to gain excess to the Sanctum of the Exalted. In order to get in, Jarael disguised herself as Celeste Morne to fool the Freeorins including the leader, Borjak, into the sanctum while Zayne and Gryph hid in the laundry hamper. After getting in, Zayne and Gryph recorded all the evidence to prove his innocence. While trying to sneak out, they were caught by Borjak. Although Zayne managed to pin down Borjak, they were quickly surrounded by the other Freeorins and was taken captive. While being captive, Zayne learned from Borjack that the Jedi Master Feln was the leader of the Freeorins, but since he left to become a Jedi, the Freeorins way of life diminished. Soon after, Feln appeared.

Feln destroyed the recorded evidence that Zayne had collected, and after contacting Lucien, he was ready to destroy the Sanctum of the Exalted, along with killing Zayne. Before Feln could kill Zayne, Borjak told Feln that because of the Rime Feeorin, since Zayne had been inside the Sanctum, Feln had to best Zayne in unarmed combat. Zayne quickly ran away from the Freeorin and tried to avoid him, but was quickly pinned down by the Jedi master. Before Feln could finish Zayne off, Borjak arrived to report that the Moomo Williaw was approaching Odryn. Feln assumed that they were arriving to gather more evidence to use against the Jedi Covenant, so he activated a detonator that cause Sanctum to explode, but inadvertently, the entire hill underneath it as well, burning the Freeorin village to the ground. Feln blamed Zayne for the devastation, was ready to strike him down with his lightsaber, until he realized that all he had was a stick. Gryph had secretly swapped the lightsaber shortly after Feln had agreed to fight unarmed. Before Feln could take any other action, Borjak and the other Feeorins turned against Feln and killed him.

Although Zayne no longer had evidence against the Covenant, Jarael later revealed that the Moomo Brothers had smuggled Sith artifacts out of the Sanctum onto their ship.

    Vindication

While Zayne was getting the evidence needed to prove his innocence, Alek and Shel made their way to Coruscant to arrange a meeting with the Jedi Council. It was up to Zayne to make it there himself, however, as Zayne and his friends made it to Coruscant, they were confronted by a blockade set up by Admiral Karth Saul. Saul sent out Carth Onasi and his squadron to bring in the Moomo Williaw While Zayne pleaded with Onasi to let him go, Carth couldn't due to letting him "go" the last time, which caused him to be demoted. With no other options, Zayne told the Moomo brothers to crash into the hanger of Saul's ship, the Swiftsure. When Admiral Karath and his soldiers entered the hangar, they were only met by Jarael and the Moomo Brothers. Zayne, Gryph, and Slyssk had stolen Carth's ship the Deadweight from the hangar and made their escape to Coruscant.
