Does anyone else assign "voices" to characters while reading X-Men comics? I know I'm not the only one. Just curious as to who you hear while reading characters lines.

Cyclops, Wolverine, Rouge, Gambit, Storm, Sentinels, Apocalypse, Jubilee, Beast- The X-Men Animated Series (What can I say I'm a 90's kid)

Magneto- Ian Mckellen (makes he's lines so much more epic in the comics)

Professor X- Patrick Stewart (see Magneto)

Emma Frost- Elizabeth Hurley duh

Angel- some boring white guy

The Stepford Cookoos- the creepy ghost girls from the Shining

Iceman- Will Friedle (Older bro in Boy Meets World, Terry McGuiness in Batman Beyond, etc)

Nightcrawler- Alan Cummings

Kitty Pryde- Mila Kunis

Colossus- Arnie (I know, I know Arnie is Austrian and Colossus is Russian but it makes it so damn awesome)

Fantomex- French pigeon from An American Tail

Cable- Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy)

Quentin Quire- Jesse from Breaking Bad

Pyro- Steve Irwin

Magik- Tali from the Mass Effect Trilogy

Deathlok Prime- Dennis Haysbert (The Allstate Car Insurance commercials)

Bishop- Samuel L Jackson

Deadpool- Flash from Justice League and JL Unlimited

Juggernaut- Juggernaut from "Im the Juggernaut b*tch!" ..jk

I actually don't hear any voices when I read comics. I don't think about how their voices would sound, I just simply read it.

for me it helps create a tone for the characters and differentiate them for me. I couldn't read comics any other way

I'd been reading the comics for a few years before I ever saw the cartoon, so by the time I saw it, only Cyclops and Xavier seemed to sound the way I'd imagined them. And maybe Jubilee. Everyone else sounded like they were doing the voices for a kids cartoon (yeah, I know, but..) it just didn't sound like them at all to me.

These three were pretty perfect though.

I can't think of very many examples of people who I think sound like most of the characters, but I do remember that when I read Iceman's dialogue, I originally pictured it in the same voice as Raphael from the original TMNT cartoon.

I hear Steve Bulm's voice whenever I read Wolverine.

I am in exactly the same boat as this. I started reading the books before the cartoon came out. So most of the voices just sounded like people doing stereotypical exaggerations of accents to me. I mean, Storm would announce what she was doing with the weather and speak very melodically while doing so. Which was odd. Also, Gambit spoke in the third person which made him sound like an idiot, Rogue was too much of a southern female stereotype. Even as a young tyke I was a never a fan of the voices of the X-Men cartoon. Beast was one of the only passable ones in my opinion.

@emequious_swerve: yeah, in retrospect Beast wasn't that far from what I'd imagined at the time.

I mostly imagine the voices from the 90s cartoon. Otherwise I imagine voices mostly from assorted English dubbed anime.

For most of the x men I just use the voices of the X-Mem aninamted series but I replace Logan's voice with Blum's voice. Younger Jean I have a tendency to use Christy Carlson Ramano.

Like most people I hear the 90's cartoon voices but for characters who weren't in the series I have created my own voices, I havn't assigned them a voice I know.
