Days of Future Past, is the Best X-men Story. This could have been a movie, or it could still be a MOvie, in a way Wolverine and the X-men cartoon was about this.
it should be a movie!
Team » X-Men appears in 13419 issues.
I think the fact that all the possible futures look rotten means the "real" future will be awesome. But I like to be optimistic.
Coz we need drama.
Stories are great stories because of the drama.
If the X-Men were all living happy futures, then what's the point of reading about it?
I just wanna say, even though Pixie/Megan had her soul taken, she's still such a light hearted free spirit...i guess its part of being a fairy...but she's so adorable!!!
Well, we've seen many variations on the effect that Charles Xavier's death has on history, but have there been any stories based on Magneto's death at an earlier point? I'd imagine w/o Erik Lensherr's terrorist acts precipitating humanity's dislike or hatred of mutants, history would turn out very different in the Marvel Universe. Suppose, for instance, that Lensherr didn't survive the Holocaust, would Xavier have formed the X-Man without his influence? However, this would also mean that the world would be woefully unprepared for Apocalypse's rise to power. You have to admit, it seems like an interesting possibility......
I for one would like them to do a story where the X-men live in a Utopian future. And maybe some mutant hater form that future comes back to the past and tries to prevent it. That would be an interesting twist.

This wouldn't be a problem if they'd just make Deadpool an X-man.
Why? Wouldn't that be redundant? He's already on X-force, a team far more suited to his special brand of justice.

Anyone else think future Kid Omega actually looked like a cool character?
Yeah, I was surprised, he actually looked kinda cool.

I loved that scene! Looks like Kid Omega may get the Phoenix Force when he becomes Man Omega
lol, Man Omega
Even though I want to see the X-Men living in a happy future, I don't think that there would be a lot of stories told with the X-Men living happily because that would mean the end of the X-Men series since they would have completed their goals and there would be no conflict or drama for the story lines. I personally would like for the current X-Men stories to actually be set in a post-apocalyptic world since they are moving towards that direction with the wipe out of many mutants and the future of Hope being unknown as no one is sure if she is there to save the mutants or destroy them. Also, we would have more stories about how the X-Men handle being in a post-apocalyptic future and maybe see more kick-butt moments with all the characters since they would have to do everything to survive in such a dark future. However, I would also like to see the X-Men become more united in such a dark future since that would prove how strong they are in dealing with such a future.
wait i have a question if the x-men are always shown as not having a good future and all that how come no other super powered heroes go and help them? is the x-men hated by them also?
- The reason why all the possible futures the X-Men discover are bleak, is that they are the only ones where someone would bother to go back in time to warn the current X-Men. If everyone retired from superheroics and spent their days popping out kids and curing cancer, there is no reason to run from the situation and scream that the sky is falling
- I also agree that without the tension and conflict there is a lot less to work with as many of the ambitious storylines would not make sense if the stakes were not so high.
what i admire of ultimate comics: x-men: the bleak future is there. Sure everybody hated ultimatum ( i know i did) but at least, once they die, they stayed dead. the real reason they keep giving a bleak future is because they know that in the Marvel Universe can't go there. Not like Ultimate Marvel can.
I think the author forgot about X-Men The End, while it had bleak parts (okay like the mansion being completely obliterated) but overall, if I remember correctly, they were fairly well accepted - and there was an inherit positive vibe (even through the conflict that drove the plot). But as others have said, if it was a utopic future, would anyone read it? Where would the conflict be? Ultimately, since X-men seems to be the epitome of social commentary, I think it mirror's our own distructive qualities, i.e. if we keep destorying the earth, there will be not be one in the future...this of course is a larger theme, look at Terra Nova, The Terminator, Matrix etc. The question is, knowing that the future is bleak - what do we do to try to change it? And that is what drives the stories...
House of M opened a "Pandora's Box" of storytelling, only to "wake up and smell the coffee". Or as Secret Invasion established "it was all a lie, and the Skrulls did it!" Wait if that's the case (or Scarlet Witch has some awesome powers that the story grew from). Honestly House of M felt like Kingdom Come to me. Even though the world was filled with peace, no wars, and a unique breakthrough of superhumans creating their own society. It still pitched the idea "hey it could happen" but we have to realize that reality is still out there. Otherwise every M series would end with the way M unfolded, or broke apart.
I give Bendis and the rest of the HOM crew kudos for opening a complete "what if". And if it could be pulled off again, let it be so. I want to take a roller coaster ride again. (but not have a story that envelopes every M universe that sells 100+ books just to follow!) XD rrraggee...
Im sure some will live happily ever after, but for others, it seems, no matter what timeline or universe, they ALWAYS end up miserable or DEAD (or at the very least, in the same situation as their "normal" 616 life).
The future of the X men is simple. They will continue to live through hell, face persecution, and continue adventuring until they (individually) die. Then they will eventually come back to life and continue to live through hell, face persecution, and continue adventuring.
Rinse and repeat, for all of eternity.
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I actually enjoy the bleak - X-renegade futures. In fact it would be nice if they actually stuck with some of these timelines.
Days of Future Past - Awesome
Old Man Logan - Fantastic! - really miss this one
Age of Apocalypse ... oh wait ... yep ... (previously Awesome)
And let's bring back Spider-Man 2099 - loved the character - but X-Men 2099 (uggghhh - shivers*)
Here's an ending after a while humanity becomes conplacent with mutants and they are integrated into society. All the x-men live. Then everything is wiped out by an exploding sun. That would be an ending!
Look if the X-Men didn't have bad futures where they all died or almost all died there would be no good ratings and time traveling mutant saviors and the like.
If everything in the future was sunshine and lollipops for the X-Men it would be boring and of course we wouldn't have Rachel Grey or Cable or X-Man or Bishop or any other cool character.
Right now we have X-Sanction in that the Avengers murdered Hope and the X-Men and Cable has 24 hours to live to figure out how they did it and how to stop them. He used an Iron Man armor from the future to beat Tony Stark, but it had a Sentinel look and feel to it. When Rulk looked over him Cable said "Talbot" and Ross said he was not Talbot but "A Hulk of a different color" which means Talbot has something to do with the dark future and might be another Hulk or something that takes over The Avengers to fight the X-Men and murders Hope in the process.
I think the entire Marvel Universe is seems destined for a bad future, though 2099 is my favorite. Just think about it, AOA, Days of Future Past, 2099, any future ruled by Kang, Earth X, multiple What Ifs, and not to mention some Exiles stories where we hove no real idea how far into the future or past these worlds are. Out of all these futures, how many are good? MC2.... that's it. Man... life in the Marvel Universe sucks.
