Fans of Chris Claremont and John Byrne's 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' story arc will likely recall which characters made an appearance in the classic X-Men tale and which of them did not. Those that did make an appearance are some of the most recognizable characters in the X-Men universe: Wolverine, Storm, Kitty Pryde and Cyclops -- all of these characters played a significant part in the comic book story, and some have also made previous appearances in the X-Men franchise films. So how many of the characters that appeared in this story will also appear in the film adaptation?

One of the challenges that screenwriter Simon Kinberg and the film's director Bryan Singer will likely face is the fact that they will not only have to translate the 'Days of Future Past' story into film, but they will also have to write it in a way that will seem like a sequel to X-Men: First Class. So how do you merge these two stories together in a way that makes sense? How do you make 'Days of Future Past' a sequel to 'X-Men: First Class' and how many of the characters that we saw in First Class will we see in the sequel?

According to actress January Jones, we won't be seeing Emma Frost in the next film, at least as far as she knows she won't be making much of an appearance.

I don’t know that I’m in it, I don’t think Emma’s in this one. Well they haven’t told me if I am (laughs). I wouldn’t put it past them though, I got the script for the first one on the airplane on the way there. It’s called Days of Future Past I think, and I think it’s more about James [McAvoy] and Michael [Fassbender] and then Patrick [Stewart] and Ian [McKellan], and I think it’s gonna go back and forth with those so I don’t think Emma’s in those bits. I don’t know, I really don’t know.

It would make sense that the sequel would be more about Magneto and Charles Xavier and the fact that changes made to the time stream could lead to some dire consequences. What do you think? Do you feel that there's still room to have Ms. Jones reprise her role as Emma Frost in the sequel? Are you looking forward to the sequel to X-Men: First Class?

I think there's room for them to do anything they want. I'd like to see January Jones as Emma again, but I would understand if Kinberg and Singer would rather go another direction.

@haydenclaireheroes: Exactly, her inclusion isn't necessary at all. She wasn't even really in the first movie anyways. Once she got captured by Magneto and Xavier we all forgot about her until the end.

January Jones was awful (which is weird considering I like her in mad men). Re-cast her and blame it on Emma's plastic surgery.

As much as I want to see this new movie, I also want them to just reboot the hell outta X-Men and hand the rights back to Marvel!

Seeing how I never liked January Jone as Emma, and was one of the major reasons I still have never watch X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. This doesn't bother me in the slightest.

However, since when did they suddenly become concerned about continuity and the cast? They changed the entire make up of the first class for the last movie. Why now be so dedicated to the original content when it's always been disregarded?

I wish they would stop making X-Men movies altogether.

Emma is supposed to have a ton of personality, and January Jones just didn't cut it. I thought Finola Hughes did a better job in the role despite a lower budget and lackluster "Generation X" script to work with lol. Apparently, though, January didn't even get the script until she was en route to shoot "First Class", so I think she didn't get much further than 'Ice Queen' as a character description so we can't blame her for the emotionless performance.

Does it matter? She was terrible in that movie. She clearly confused "icy" with "wooden"

The Hellfire Club bits just seemed to be too flat. We get it, it's a gentleman's club. But Emma Frost was always cunning, erudite, and justifiably condescending. January Jones struggles with all of those traits.

If she isn't in it, movie just got a whole lot more watchable. Jennifer Lawrence in a recent interview also claimed that she didn't know what the movie was called, when the interviewer asked her about it she was all "What's that?". Either Fox is lacking in communication with their actors...or...well no, they put off production for this movie for Jennifer Lawrence to finish Catching Fire, didn't they?

Then yeah...Fox's communication sucks ass.

I would really like Rachel, chances are she is not. But if I could do the casting it would be Dianna Agron, put on a red wig and she would look so much like Famke Janssen. Plus she would be able to show Rachel's youth.  
I would have said Kitty, but I have no idea how considering in the original story Kate (older Kitty) switched with Kitty. Unless they plan on jumping to when she was new to the school.  
Maybe if they do cast Emma it will be a good actress, maybe Emily Blunt.

The problem with Emma Frost wasn't January Jones fault. They made her into the personal bitch of Sebastian Shaw which is far from Emma's personality. In the movie all she did was take orders. She did no leading whatsoever and didn't have her trademark: "I'm a bitch, deal with it" attitude. Her whole entire role in the movie was reverted to that of a 60s housewife, who only spoke when asked to and didn't do anything but look good for her man. I don't know whose fault it is (writer or director) for that big misstep in converting Emma into the big screen, but she needs a massive reboot. Not to mention she doesn't fit in into the X-men universe, since she appears as a teenager in X-men Origins: Wolverine set during the mid 80s. I wouldn't mind if they just erased her existence from X-men movie-verse and restarted from scratch with her character.

If they are doing older Xavier and Magneto, it stands to reason they could put an older Emma in the film, too. Didn't Singer have plans to have Emma in his X-Men 3? He intended for Sigourney Weaver to play her, and I for one think she could do Emma justice.

I like that fans so freely criticize her acting and then you see those threads with dream casting choices and basically any Maxim model is contender for the role of Emma on the basis of being blonde and pretty. Just like any redhead ever is at some point in time considered for Jean Grey.

People should just relax, it was a small role with not much material anyways. I'd love to see them bring Emma back and do something interesting with her, January Jones could pull it together for this one anyways.

PLUS, the last movie ended with her being recruited by Magneto...are they just going to ignore it?

If Fox is smart, they will never again cast her as anything more than an extra. Her acting talent is like someone who has had way too much Botox...just emotionless and plain. She is pretty, but not Emma Frost pretty. And Emma has more personality to her character than JJ showed us. They even gave her the scenes to be impressive and show us what The White Queen can do; she did not deliver at all and just came across as dull...very dull.

I like Emma Frost, but her presence is hardly needed in this film.

Wasn't a big fan of the actress as Emma so I'm glad. If they plan to incorporate the character it wouldn't be the worst idea to recast her.

Oh come on where's the continuity from the last film? And what's the point of establishing those characters if we won't see them again? But it's fine to bring back Ian "I'm the most terrible actor ever, but fans love me because of my garbage portrayal of Magneto and Gandalf" McKellen. This movie's preliminaries are making it sound like a bad idea already.

Good riddance. January Jones has the acting ability of a rock, and her face looks like it's been hit several times by one.

I hope I'm not the only person who was angry at Darwin's death scene (which is one of the few gripes I have about X-Men: First Class to begin with).

Anyway, I'll wait until the movie's actually out in theaters and I see it before judging it.

Did I miss anyone? Nope, no Emma Frost anywhere, so no big loss.

And yet I have somehow never seen or heard anybody suggest it personally, but I LIKE IT. I never even entertained the possibility because they've made so many movies already but honestly, let's face it, those movies have made such mockeries of not only the comic's continuity but even their OWN continuity in the movie universe that it makes the plot holes in the long history of X-Men comics pale in comparison. With the awesome direction Marvel movies have taken in the past few years I'd be totally alright if they decided to say screw it, let's start all over KNOWING that there will be sequels and start with the right characters at their appropriate ages in order to plan accordingly for future movies to actually make sense.
