A howling good read!
This issue starts off very quietly with the X-Force team coping with the repercussions of finding the drug addled Rahne. We are fortunate enough to X-23’s narrative. I find that Kyle and Yost have a better handle on her inner monologue than all of the others. X-23 is perfectly portrayed as an individual who did not have a normal rearing experience and is on an emotional level developmentally delayed as a result. Glad to see the writers brought up an old coping mechanism of X-23’s that I find is an essential part of her character’s history. This issue also sees the introduction of a new member to the X-Force team in the form of Josh Folely aka Elixir as the team’s healer. It is great to see Kyle and Yost using characters they have so much experience with. We also find out why in the previous issue it was so easy for X-Force to retrieve Rahne. In addition to this, we finally learn what Risman’s been talking about with his Choir. The issue ends with the surprise return of a fan favorite X-Men character that will surely add a new dynamic to the book.
Continue to be impressed by Crain’s artwork. Crain is able to draw a fully wolfed out version of Rahne. These images of Rahne are terrifying and they alsoadd a nice little horror aspect to the issue. Seeing this, I would love to see Crain on a Midnight Sons book. Crain’s finally image of the surprise character reveal is a creepy yet tremendous moment that puts the reader in the other character’s point of view.
Overall, an issue that progresses the story with fantastic artwork and good surprises 5/5.
