X-23
Character » X-23 appears in 2383 issues.
X-23 is a product of the Weapon X program, born from a damaged sample of Wolverine's DNA. She has recently aged up, being saved from the Vault.
Is X-23 Joining Avengers Academy?!?
Hmmm who knows she doesnt feature a lot I the x men books anymore. But she is still wearing an X on her uniform.
AVENGERS ACADEMY #23
Written by Christos Gage
Penciled by Tom Raney
Cover by Rodin Esquejo
- X-23 joins Avengers Academy…will they survive the experience?
- A classic villain returns!
- Reptil's darkest secret is revealed!
There have been mentions about it on Twitter. Christos Gage has stated that it makes sense for her to be there because of events from Fear Itself (presumably due to her appearance with Spider-Girl in Home Front... Perhaps Anya recommended the AA to Laura??
Anyway, I'm rapidly tired of X-23. She isn't meant to be a little Wolverine, but that's how Marvel are treating her now. That's why I'm hoping that this is just a temporary thing for a couple of issues before she leaves to continue her badly written travels.
@AgeofHurricane:
why? Laura has more in common with Avengers Academy than with FF. After all, Avengers Academy was founded to help troubled teenage superhumans and turn them into superheroes. And let's face it, nobody of the students had the life as horrible as Laura Kinney.
X-23's presence in AVENGERS ACADEMY is not a gimmick...after FEAR ITSELF her experiences are very relevant to some of the AA kids...
I'm guessing it's some sort of post-war/post-traumatic therapy? Who knows. While I'm not crazy about the inclusion of X-23, I do trust Gage to tell a good story. I just hope that she wont be a permanent addition to the title.
she's been an actual Avenger, as well as is currently running with another band in Fear Itself, and has been running with other teams in the past.
I say it's almost the natural progression to have her join one again. Otherwise I don't see the logic in dissonance here. Your either reading her book
or your not, and that book has been using other team mates/ex-team mates for her supporting cast, so I can't see an upheaval here personally.
Likewise I can't see her being in AA affecting her main series prolifically.
Okay, so I've put some thought to this...
Avengers Academy is basically the island of broken toys (metaphorically speaking) and X-23 is a broken toy like the other inmates, I mean students there.
Also, after Schism she's going to need somewhere to go. She won't want to stay with Cyclops on Target Island. and it seems Wolverine is now in a "Kids don't fight" mode... Sooo... She needs a new home... Why not the academy.
Exciting :) I can't wait.. Although, the last issue of Academy I read was 12... I have a pile to read, not good!

@Timandm: Lol Island of Broken/Misfit toys lol reminds of the Rudolph Christmas they air in December on ABC Family. But she'd fit well on Avengers Academy so the roster is Julie Powers, White Tiger, X-23, Mettle, Hazmat & Finnesse? Interesting
Yep, that's what I was referencing. It was one of the first things that came to mind when I first read Avengers Academy.
Still don't get why people are comparing X-23 to Wolverine and it doesn't make sense to make her come off as if she's "on every team" because really she's only been on a one team at ant given time. And currently she is not on a team at all so I don't see what the big deal is all about.

I don't believe she has ever been an an Avenger in the mainstream universe. The only time I can think of when she exactly was an "Avenger" was when she was part of an alternate version of the team called the Shevengers alongside that world's Emma Frost, Invisible Woman, Spider-Girl. And even then she went by the name "Wolverine" and not X-23.@CATPANEXE said:
she's been an actual Avenger...Did I miss something? When was X-23 ever an Avenger!?
I actually really hope this happens. X-23's never been the one to step up on Utopia because Wolverine won't let her do X-Force again, so I think this is an excellent fit for her. I think she'd also work very well with Hazmat as well as the rest of the team. Who knows, maybe she'll get wise to Finesse and find out what she's up to.
I hope it's permanent :)
@DATNIGGA: Ive got to agree, Ive always thought Avengers academy was really lame and have kept wondering when the book is going to get cancelled. I guess its got a stronger reader base than I thought. I just cant see X-23 even having with those d-listers though.

So do I. People are complaining about the AA kids, but if anyone has actually read the book they would know it is pretty good. The characters are slowly developing, finding their own niche'. I can tell as they become more prominent characters their main fans will be the ones who have followed the through AA. On another not, I hope X-23 doesn't take all the spotlight. It would suck if it was suddenly another X-23 book (not that it wouldn't be good, but I want to know what happens to the normal academy kids).
Also, regarding comparing X-23 and Wolverine... Is it that surprising that they are being compared. Ok, forget that she is Wolverine's clone. They have the same powers. Similar personalities. They both have pasts they regret. In mnay ways they DO SEEM similar. Whether or not when you break down the outer appearance and gruff nature, you would probably find Laura to be a world different.

X-23 taking the spotlight is something i can see happening I just don't want it to be permanent because I don't want to add another title to my pull list XD But she might fit right in, though they need to keep it from being just about her on the team or it will just be X-23 and friends.
I see it as an effort to get new readers on the title without restarting it/canceling it, and hey it's working I'm getting just because laura is joining lol(I collect her appearances)

Haha, I have really enjoyed the book through. It has been a fun ride! We will see, not sure how she would go Long-term, but it seems like she needs to find her place, and juts because she is a mutant, doesn'tmean she should be on the X-Men... She seems more like an Avengers type anyway, IMO.
Yes... That's what I was thinking. It may very well work! Have to wait and see I guess.. :)
@DATNIGGA: Oy! The Academy kids are fantastic. All new characters don't just enter cool. They get there naturally, like Hazmat and Mettle. Also, you do know that Academy is selling more than X-23, right?
