The Amazon princess, blessed with god-like super abilities, Wonder Woman is one of Earth's most powerful defenders of peace, justice, and equality and a member of the Justice League. She is considered an archetype for many heroines outside of comic book. Her initial origin depicted her as a clay baby brought to life by patron goddess Aphrodite, but in recent years she has been depicted as the daughter of Zeus and Amazon queen Hippolyta.
Well, First Born was created to get away from Dr. Psycho. Brian thought Dr. Psycho has nothing to do with Wonder Woman. Brian set out to make this a no cheesecake run. I could tell of these fronts, that he was avoiding these issues. But, Dr. Psycho needed to be in there for a good Wonder Woman run. It was good to hear that he accomplished his goals for Wonder Woman and developing Hera. I did like how he developed Hera and Zola. I liked the introduction of Aleka. The parts he mention were good extractions from a run that I would have enjoyed better, had Dr. Psycho been the main antagonist. I hope the Finch(es) bring in Dr. Psycho and Wonder Woman’s classic villains, but develop and updates them for current times.
@dshipp17: The problem is that Brian's views on the old WW gallery of foes is echoed by most people who's heard of them, including people working in DC. And while I do agree with Brian that Psycho wasn't a good villain for Diana (making a mortal enemy of someone simply because of their gender is not exactly a brilliant motivation for him), he had potential, a potential that was only really seen in Odyssey.
Sadly we might have to wait for a mini-reboot to really give the old crew a chance, since:
Johns dropped the ball in a big way with Cheetah, making her even worse than she already was by making her a bonafied nutjob (Could have been a Beast, they went with Kraven's wife)
Psycho being either this terrible tag-along for Kon-El and standard crazy doctor in Trinity War (He could have been a Mr. Sinister, they chose a Carnage)
Giganta... admitedly I kinda like seeing her stomp around with SHADE and Pandora, but turning her into another dumb brute is rather wasted. (She could have been a Hank Pym sort, they chose a Titania)
I feel like there's still so much to be addressed before the conclusion of this run and so little space to do so now, I hope this is a super sized issue. I want to learn the story behind the Less-than-a-Man, why Hippolyta is a terracotta warrior now, Wonder Woman meeting her father Zeus is a pretty big deal, the big final battle for Olympus..
