A few weeks back, it was rumored that Breaking Bad producer/director Michelle MacLaren was in talks to direct the 2017 film Wonder Woman. The Hollywood Reporter reported today that she officially singed on. According to those "in the know," MacLaren will be working with the unknown writers to put the script together, set to hit theaters on June 23rd, 2017.

The search for the director began early this summer and MacLaren was a top contender back in August. This is the first time, in the recent history of comic book films, that a women is directing a film. The last time a super-hero film was directed by a woman was back in 2008 when Lexi Alexander directed Punisher: War Zone.

The fact the Wonder Woman film is being directed by a woman is a good thing for sure, especially when it's a woman of MacLaren's caliber. Aside from working on what many people think to be a modern-day masterpiece in episode television, Breaking Bad, MacLaren also had experience of co-executive producing X-Files, as well as directing one episode as well.

The film will star Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and has Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder producing.

I am trying to imagine how they would bring her into the Snyder-verse without making her a total badass ... look how badass Faora was in the first MoS ... I just hope they don't just create a "good guy version" of Faora

Anyways, I have faith in her. She directed some of my favorite episodes for two of my favorite shows, Breaking Bad (One Minute etc.) and The Leftovers (Cairo), plus, i'm pretty sure she directed a handful of GoT episodes to boot and that show hasn't had anything less than a great episode yet.

This is her film directing debut, so she'll have little studio say, and Snyder will have lots of input... Consider that 300 movie he produced earlier this year.

At least Captain Marvel is coming out in 4 years. That should be good.

Willing to bet Marvel will announce the Captain Marvel director within a week.

After so many years on the net and so many rumors and announcements (everyone from Lucy Lawless to Sandra Bullock over at least a decade and a half) I'm just not going to believe they'll actually make this until I see it in the theaters.

She's also directed several episodes of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones! Those shows are a bit closer to the genre at hand, so it proves she can work with fantasy.

Doubt it, the Russo brothers began writing the third Cap before Winter Soldier actually hit theatres in April. It just wasn't announced to be based on Civil War until Marvel could make their big phase 3 reveal.

@csg_cl: I don't want them to used a depowered Wonder Woman. I want WW to use her weapons and abilities to it's fullest extent. The general audience would like to see a kickass female on the big screen. If they can make a minor character like Faora a force to be dealt with then Wonder Woman should be indeed be a bad b***h. Sorry if I went a little too far but i'm excited for what MacLaren has in store for us. I am still wondering what story they will use..I was hoping for War of the Gods.

We're in sequel territory now so everything will be bigger, stronger and more bad@ss than the first MoS which will lead nicely into the solo film ... At least I hope ... Oh boy, I'm getting all fanboy excited!

I agree, she directed a few successful tv shows but superhero stuff is a whole different genre in which she's got no experience so although I am cautiously optimistic when it comes to Wonder Woman it's always unwise to set off the fireworks before the party.

@foamborn: There is really no big difference between a tv show and a movie except more thought and time is put into the other. I can agree that we need to be cautious of what might happen. We can easily have high hopes but the movie could be a complete fail.

@zhurong: and lets not forget that she produced on X-Files as well as her directing credits. She's got a blue chip resume of successfuL TV shows. I'm more worried about the script than I am her credentials. Hopefully they can get someone awesome to write it!

@csg_cl: I'm a bit iffy about what personality they will use for Wonder Woman. That is the most confusing thing about her. She can be a funny and loving person or she can be a violent and ruthless person. You notice how her personality completely changes in every non-canon cartoon?

Cinema is not my area of expertise but there must be a few big differences, a bit like playing singles and doubles tennis. I imagine she doesn't have a lot of experience with battle scenes, CGI and all those kind of things though obviously someone in the team will so hopefully it will be a good movie. Faora was cool but her dialogue was not so I hope the same doesn't happen to Wonder Woman. I trust MacLaren to be more heedful than Scott Snyder and hopefully get rid of the heels as well

DC manned up and gave this project, rightfully, to a woman.

Wonder Woman deserved a great female director. I'm sure she will bring the most out of Gadot, hopefully. Keep in mind that Bryan Cranston wasn't a phenomenal talent until the Breaking Bad guys made the best of what they had.

Her resume ensures that she can handle this project, if she had a horrible track record with shows then i'd be worried, but that's not the case.Only real diffrence between tv and film is length, staff and productions cost....im more worried about the script than anything...I hope its solid.
