    Wonder Woman

    Character » Wonder Woman appears in 8807 issues.

    The Amazon princess, blessed with god-like super abilities, Wonder Woman is one of Earth's most powerful defenders of peace, justice, and equality and a member of the Justice League. She is considered an archetype for many heroines outside of comic book. Her initial origin depicted her as a clay baby brought to life by patron goddess Aphrodite, but in recent years she has been depicted as the daughter of Zeus and Amazon queen Hippolyta.

    Does wonder woman belong in the big 3

    For those who don't know sometimes people call batman, superman and wonder woman the big 3. I love wonder woman but why is she in the big 3. Batman and superman have at least 5 related titles and she only has one, I think green lantern should be in the big 3, even his main title is selling better than hers

    Being popular is irrelevant, she's still makes the trinity.

    Marvel's flagship character is spider-man but their trinity is Thor,iron man, and captain america.

    Its not about title its about substance. Superman is well ...Superman. The god of heroes we all look up to as aspire to be. Batman is the man. The one man who has stood on and broken the shoulders of beings far beyond his power and intellect. Wonder Woman is the heart of both of these things. The strong, warm arms that caress us in our darkest hour and lifts us up in our brightest moment. She is irreplaceable and will always belong in The Big 3 (or Monster Trio for you One Piece fans out there XD)

    Exactly and Green lanterns are like a dime a dozen Wonder Woman is a one off a kind. Oh and female leads rarely sell as well as males. Heck Aquaman may be out selling her.

    She supposed to be the magic element but they have several others to use. Wonder Woman seems to have difficulty working with others and has difficulty since events she have done and trouble from her past. Perhaps another would work. Superman has a family and Batman now has an army. I don't see much leadership done with her.

    To be fair also Wonder Woman has proven popular enough as a character to be continually published since the 1940s, save for some gaps around Crisis events.  Hal Jordan, Barry Allen, Aquaman - all are good heroes, but all have also gone through some big gaps in their publication, not only because of editorial decisions, but also because at times they couldn't maintain a series based off of their popularity.  I agree that she has only been able to hold on to only one series for the majority of the time, but how many characters have done this since the 1940s?

    I think Historically she's the big3

    WW was very popular from the 40s to the 80s, that's a 40+ year run, Diana brought to life by actress Lynda Carter became a household name with the tv series, and is popular from the justice league toons and animated features

    the comic world looks different now with Black Widow,"Kim" Possible, Red Sonja, Buffy, Japanese animated girl heroes, Mary Jane, Elektra, Photon, White Queen, Storm, Rogue, Ms Marvel etc

    but back in the day there was only one heroine, it was Wonder Woman and DC dominated

    Green Lantern is nothing in comparison and his movie a complete flop, movies are supposed to increase popularity of characters but it sold badly at the box office and it cost Warner Bros and DC lots of money

     Wonder Woman is still essentially extremely more popular than Green Lantern or the other League members. Her place....despite how many titles she has, is with Batman and Superman

    Marvel maybe pushing the whole "trinity" things theses days because of the film, but I have always found Marvel to have a "4 corner" kind of set up....Spider-Man, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men were always Marvels leading titles, In fact Iron Man was a glossed over character by fans only until about 5 years ago when his movie came out

    She's an icon, simple enough. You recognize Wonder Woman. Despite however her book goes or how many toys she sells or how many movies and shows she gets, the name, the symbol and the character always remain prevalent and highly recognized. She is her own S shield.

    Based on DCnU and the latest animations, It seems like DC is moving away from a "trinity". Superman and Wonder Women really seem to have been reduced to Muscle, with Flash and Aquaman remaining as additional/complementary firepower. All the while, Batman is coming up with strategies giving orders, while pushing Hal to step up as 2nd, and with Cyborg taking on more of the hardcore Tech/science role.

    If they did got back to a trinity, it would be more about Superman/Batman having the best chemistry, with Wonder Women being the only person they both seem to get perfectly along with. So this would add to the chemistry, but in terms of powers, anyone could replace either her or Superman, but not in terms of personality/relationship. They could do another trinity with Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman, that would be comical. Cyborg is cool and all, but he seems more of a niche right now compared to MM, he would be the odd man out, but as the rookie, it is excusable.

    Wonder Woman belongs in the big three. She earned that title a long time ago when she was hugely popular along side Batman and Superman. Those three basically carried the whole comic-book industry (a time when girls actively read comics) while studios like Marvel almost went bankrupt. Marvel bounced back pretty well :P

    Anyway Today

    Wonder Woman is the most underrated under developed mainstream character in the comic-book universe. She is actually a great character with a great history. I believe she is the most dynamic of all the members of the justice league. Maybe too dynamic for some people.

    She has a very interesting range of personalities but since nobody ever "finished" a POST CRISIS Wonder Woman TV show or movie which really brings out the best in her character, people have to literally read Wonder Woman comics from 1986 to 2012 to really know the character and find out her most consistent theme and I am sure only the most diehard fans have done that.

    Lynda Carter TV Wonder Woman is very different than Post crisis Wonder Woman but still that show should be respected because it did help the Wonder Woman brand at the time.

    Wonder Woman is also an "original" female comic book character meaning she is not created and did not originate as a spin off of Batman, Superman or some other male counterpart Superhero in any way which is basically the case for virtually all standalone female superheros who at one time had there own comic book.

    Powergirl = Superman

    Supergirl =Superman

    Batgirl x3 or 4 versions = Batman

    Catwoman = Batman

    Huntress = Batman

    Ms Marvel= Captain Marvel

    She-Hulk = Hulk

    ETC ETC

    She should always be considered as the BIG THREE and in-fact she should be considered the QUEEN of the whole comic book industry based on the fact that no other female superhero has accomplished what Wonder Woman has in 70 years of comics.

    Maybe that's why she cant get a TV or Movie gig. She is so high up on a pedestal that nobody wants to risk destroying that perfect image of Wonder Woman which nobody seems to be able to articulate and put on paper. Nobody wants to reveal the skeletons in her closet. Shes got some serious skeletons believe me LOL

    Anyway Wonder Woman is the BIG 3 and deserves it.(and not just because she is a woman)

    She was always the other superhero that would come to mind when talking DC. It's Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman. That's the way I saw it. Even if you asked me to rattle off other DC heroes under them, I'd still probably say Flash or Aquaman before I'd say Green Lantern (and I've grown to become a huge GL fan in the past couple years or so).

    I feel like she'd belong in the big three because she's an icon. The fact that she's a woman is almost moot, because the Wonder Woman signal/ideal has almost transcended gender boundaries at this point. She's a woman, yes, but that's but one of the things that makes her a household name, not the only thing or the only reason why she should be considered in the same territory as Batman or Superman.

    Yeah, the Big Three/Trinity is sorta much about history and icon status than current book rankings and comic sales. Maybe when Green Lantern permeates into popular culture and has famous artists drawing him, and pop culture references in music, film, TV, for 50 plus years - might be an argument. If we made the criteria by number of books sold, then Big 3 would be constantly changing and rendering the term redundant. Mainstream appeal =/= comic success by the issue.

    Yep .... Supes, Wondy and Bats are the most iconic superheroes in all of comics and time ... No one can disagree with this. So it's only right to have them in the big 3 ... If you take one of them out of the big 3 then its only the big 2 .... Because the hero who replaces one of the big 3 is not as iconic as these 3 superheroes ... Superman, Batman and Wonderwoman.

    I think she belongs, if only because of the history and iconic status of the character. I do think that the balance has gotten out of wack though. Batman needs to be taken down a peg. The plot armor he gets is absurd.
