Remember that Marvel NOW! teaser we showed you late last week that featured one, single, iconic word? 'SNIKT'? The teaser that was clearly hinting at a new Wolverine family series still left us wondering whether the focus would be Daken, X-23 or Wolverine. Today, it seems, we've got our answer. Marvel announced that Wolverine would be seeing a brand-new ongoing starting in March, 2013 as part of Marvel NOW! titled simply (and appropriately), WOLVERINE. The new series will be written by Paul Cornell and illustrated by Marvel artist Alan Davis. This means that everyone's favorite mutant will be seeing two ongoing books as part of this Marvel NOW! initiative; WOLVERINE and SAVAGE WOLVERINE.

    No Caption Provided

Some of you might be asking, why the need for two Wolverine ongoing books? Why not just one? Well aside from the fact that the character is extremely popular (just look at his sales), Wolverine is also a multi-faceted character with a very rich history. There are stories that can be told of him and his adventures with the X-Men, stories that focus on Wolverine as mentor to a younger generation and finally Wolverine on his solo adventures. According to the series' creative team, WOLVERINE will focus on his life in New York "with many non-superhero friends." According to writer Paul Cornell,

"This is the action series title where we meet him in his New York context, with many non-super hero friends (like Claremont always had the X-Men), part of a community of professionals, a very civilized man of violence who’d prefer to be a man of peace," Cornell said. This title, according to Cornell, will be the "central Wolverine title," meaning that it will likely be the place that fans of the character should go to to see the character develop and evolve.

What do you think of the news? Do you think that two Wolverine ongoings are too few, too many or just right? Is this a series you are looking forward to reading? What do you think of the Alan Davis cover? Will you be putting this series on your pull-list come March, 2013?

I have a feeling people are going to (justifiably) whine about how Wolverine has so many ongoing titles. I'd just like to calmly remind them that Batman has no less than 5 ongoing titles, including guest appearances in at least another 5 every month, plus team books like Justice League. This stuff happens

Two books? Looks like one-million. I wish Marvel would be more continuity-heavy and put characters in less books. They can make appearances and stuff, but to be a regular on so many teams AND have two books? That is just ridiculous.

I bet the two writers aren't even talking to keep the continuity the same.

I don't care about the past -- change whatever you want about the past, but at least keep the present continuity together. It is just sloppy if it isn't.

Cornell on Wolverine does interest me though. I'm just not a fan of whoever is in charge of editorial at Marvel.

I'm also having a hard time keeping up with all of these books coming out on separate dates. It is really confusing. A lot of the books I've wanted to pick up, I havent because I missed when each one has come out.

"Snikt" was advertising a Wolverine comic? Shocking!!!

Seriously I'm wondering why Marvel even bothered with the transparent teaser instead of just showing the cover, they might as well have when their teaser word is Snikt.

I knew the first comment would be from an X-23 fan. I also knew this would be a Wolverine book. X-23 doesn't sell. She may be a great character but Marvel don't seem to think so. Not enough to give X-23 her own book anyway.

@CircularLogic: Before Marvel Now, Wolverine was in far more books than Batman, not counting Wolverine Max or other non canon appearences. It's impossible to juggle so many teams and your own adventures. At least most of Batman's series deal with his own adventures rather than him being on so many teams. Both are the cashcows of DC and Marvel though so their appearences need to be milked nowadays.

This is a great creative team though. I'm a big Cornell fan and Davis' art looks impressive. But I've had enough of the X-Men world for a while so I'll give this a miss.

I don't mind so many titles. I mind that they don't connect in continuity. Batman is understandable because they can be happening on different nights.

Wolverine would have to be in different months. The continuity with this sh*t doesnt make sense. How could he be doing completely different things in two books AND be on teams at the same time? He needs to be thinned out. I don't care if he has a billion solo books, but it is ridiculous that he can teleport anywhere at any time to do anything.

im a wolverine fan so im going to read it , but i was kinda hoping to get a x-23 series or a daken series (maybe do somthin with erista?) . it seems spidey wolverine and the most prominent avengers(hulk, thor, cap, iron man) are the only characters Marvel has . would like to see more obscure characters get their time to shine

In this new, and exciting Wolverine series, Logan is a street walker, with a heart of gold.He is the best at what he does, and what he does is prostitution, and smoking meth. Will Jubilee shave his back? Will Luke Cage get his money? Will Doop get a 50-50? Will Hank Pym have to Smack a B*tch? Will Mr. White, and Jesse get the methylamine they need to cook? Find out in Wolverine; Red Light Princess.

Actually, Batman makes even less sense, because nothing stops Wolverine from operating during the day (also his advanced healing factor means he probably doesn't suffer from fatigue and exhaustion to the extent Batman does, so less time devoted to sleep), plus he doesn't have a secret identity per se like Batman does.

What? Did anyone actually think it wasnt going to be a Wolverine series? This book will sell better than X-23 and Daken combined would. Wolvie is obviously one of Marvels top characters, but I have never really gotten into him as a solo character. Hmm, could be worth a look at least.

Batman doesnt star in twenty books. He makes guest appearances. He is in Batman, Detective, The Dark Knight, Batman and Robin, Justice League and Batman Inc.

Batman is an overarching story while Detective, the Dark Knight and Batman and Robin take place on random nights throughout the week. They still work together rather then apart. When Robin is doing something in one book, it mentions it in another book. Etc.

Then Justice League only happens when there is a big event in the world. It was mentioned in I think Justice League #7.

The only one that doesn't fit is Batman Inc. and that is because it is written by Grant Morrison -- he does whatever he wants. MUCH like Loeb at Marvel... except Morrison is a good writer.

Marvel doesn't acknowledge the universe around the characters until there is some sort of event or something.

So now we have Wolverine, Savage Wolverine, Wolverine Max, Wolverine and The X-Men, and those are just the ones that have his name in them. This is absurd. I had figured Savage was going to be the replacement for the current Wolverine series.

A complicated back story is a thin excuse for fracturing your reader base. More so with the price of comics today. I used to like Wolverine, but now I'm beyond tired of him, and his character feels like a big hypocrite.

I don't see how making multiple titles for the same characters solves the issue of dropping sales numbers. I doubt every fan of Wolverine is buying all the titles he's in. Instead, the readership splinters to follow seperate books.

The funny thing about this is that, the majority will whine and complain about Wolverine's increasing exposure, but with this title will STILL sell.

I was relieved to see Babs pulled this from ifanboy and didn't write this bad plug for the (what I believe without my Overstreet handy) fourth reboot of the title in 15 years. Grief. Just leave the old man alone and allow him to keep his original numbering - kinda one of those things that implies something has some history, longevity and life all to itself. I think this dude who fought in WWI and then created a fantasy epic talked about that....
