    Wolverine

Character » Wolverine appears in 16088 issues.

A long-lived mutant with the rage of a beast and the soul of a Samurai, James "Logan" Howlett's once mysterious past is filled with blood, war, and betrayal. Possessing an accelerated healing factor, keenly enhanced senses, and bone claws in each hand (along with his skeleton) that are coated in adamantium; Wolverine is, without question, the ultimate weapon.

Can Wolverine come back from the dead?

His healing factor usually makes it so that he never even reaches that point, but if some form of lethal damage were dealt to him, say he was killed while his HF was nullified and then it turned back on again afterwards, would he revive?

Drowning is often accepted as the only real sure-fire way to kill Wolverine, but I've always assumed that if surfaced, his body could revive. I'm hearing that's not true though, which leads me to believe that he can't actually come back from the dead.

This already somewhat happened during the end of Frank Tieri’s Wolverine run. Wolverine got shot with some special MPC weapon shot at him by Sabretooth took away his healing before Victor kidnapped his adopted daughter Amiko. Wolverine fought Omega Red and Lady Deathstroke at the same time, but was captured and brought to Victor in a forest. Wolverine fought him a bit, and was able to eventually tactically maneuver Victor where he was shot with the MPC weapon and fled. Wolverine proceeded to die from his injuries he got during the fight, and had a reunion in the gates before the afterlife with the first women he ever loved as a teenager back during Origin by Paul Jenkins, Rose. He eventually woke up 23 minutes later, and found out that the weapon’s effects were temporary, so he came back to life once his healing factor was turned on again.

If he was at the gates of the afterlife but didn't enter, that would imply he hadn't actually crossed over yet.

@wolverine08: A kind of iffy example, but I guess kind of true, would be when Cyclops Trojan horsed him with the nanites and shut down his healing factor to invade the vampires, he should have been technically dead. He was just living dead as Jubilee stated as a vampire her heart doesn't beat. It's a bit of a stretch by comparison of the more accurate (to the given scenario by the OP) instance you mentioned. He was living dead, but the nanites were capable of jump starting his healing factor again when it was gone on a cellular level I believe.

Isn't Wolverine's soul bound to his body now so he can't die anyway?

@jonny_anonymous: He can die. The whole he dies, fights the angel of death and if he wins he comes back deal has been pretty much ignored. It's one of those things where it's mentioned once but hasn't been since. Kind of like how Captain America's shield has been glazed over by uru after Fear Itself but no one has mentioned it since.

Wasn't Logan killed once and had to fight an angel in Purgatory, whom he defeated?

Wolverine can shoot laser out of his eyes.
