In a different universe, Wendy Case was a reporter who wanted fame. Hence, she started to write about a so called Superboy, who had become an urban legend. She got to talk to this Superboy, and attempted to make him in to a worldwide sensation. But he didn`t want to co-operate.
Due to this, Case blew up a fe gas pipes, to get this Superboy out in to the open, and get her story. She almost succeeded. But just almost. The boy who seemed to be able to lift a heavy wooden object, didn`t really have superpowers. She insisted that he is the real thing, though. Not that many believed her, and she was institutionalized.
In reality, the boy in question, Clark Kent, DID have superpowers and only pretended that this isn`t the case.
