    Watchmen

    Team » Watchmen appears in 44 issues.

    Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins. The grouping of heroes and villains contained in the work are not, in fact, named "The Watchmen", though they were at one point referred to as "Crimebusters". Rorschach, Nite Owl and Dr. Manhattan were the team's primary heroes.

    No seriously. I never watched the movie, never read the book, haven't picked up a single issue of Before Watchmen, nothing... I know absolutely zip.

    What's the big deal? I've heard somewhat lack luster reviews from Before Watchmen. Why are they so popular with DC?

    Read the graphic novel and find out i'd say. What's the fun in others telling you everything while you could explore yourself ;)

    @minigunman123:

    Furthermore, go read Watchmen.

    I can't stress that enough.

    Go read Watchmen.

    Even if you don't like it after you've read it, it deserves the spot on a required reading list for anyone who likes comics.

    For a guy with over 2,000 you'd think they'd know to use google. But its very depressing and not an optimistic hero story like Superman or the down-to-earth fantasty violence and arty criminals of the Batman stories, it's just completely gloomy. When your done reading the comic or the movie the moral of the story will be: well despite how immensely fucked up and corrupt humanity is, there's still hope left if you give them a chance . Wether you agree with that is debatable and is left to the reader (especially since they don't show much to back up that statement). So yeah

    It's like The Beatles of modern comics. Arguably overrated but held in highest regard by the critics that people who have little to do with the medium are most likely to see (in this case Time instead of Rolling Stone).

    Pretty much this. It's one of those books that you have to read if you're into comic books. I read it (and have read it again recently), could appreciate why it was held in such high regard, but personally wouldn't class it amongst my favourites.

    Watchmen is one of those books that seems like it's been around forever, but still reads more current and on-point than the vast majority of the mediocrity that gets pushed out on a weekly basis.

    Watchmen is the second best graphic novel written by one of comics most influential, and important writers.

    25 says read it, and enjoy. Because of that book, comics are a more competent and serious medium. Whatever comic you like because it's "dark and gritty", you have Watchmen to thank for that.

    You just gotta love people who say comics like Watchmen or DKR are overrated.
