Genetically altered by Ant-Man (Henry Pym), Janet Van Dyne gained the ability to alter her size, fly at rapid speeds, and fire bio-electric energy "stings". Calling herself "Wasp", she became Pym's superhero partner. Later, she became a founding member and the first female member of the Avengers.
Man, Marvel must of decided they hate Wasp all of a sudden. I mean look what they did to the character in less then a year. First they killed off 616 Wasp in secret invasion, then they killed off 1610 Wasp in ultimatum. After that theres no more Wasp left.
Ultimatum killed just about everybody off, so I don't think that was personal against Wasp. But I did think it was funny when Hank Pym was Wasp (but I think that was 616, not 1610).

Well if it makes you feel better, since there was no body to tell us 616 Wasp is really dead, they could have her came back. And Ultimatum both Hank and Jan died, but that a different story, Marvel wants the Ultimate U to have a small number of heroes running around there, so you have to take some characters off the board, so that new one's can come to light
I've never been a fan of writers using the "women in refrigerator" plot to do character development, that being said the death of Janet is the best that could have happened to Hank.
For once, Hank is quite cool and now my favorite founding avenger
