Vertigo comics are on a major role these days. I'd have to say that pretty much every new book they've put out has been pure awesomeness. But besides my affection for Vertigo, there's another reason I am on the edge of my seat with anticipation. Two words: "I, Zombie."
Check out the credits. It's by Chris Roberson (Cinderella: From Fabletown With Love) and Mike Allred (Madman). What is this cool looking book going to be about? According to Vertigo's blog:
If that weren't enough, check out the variant drawn by Darwyn Cooke:Told from a female zombie’s perspective, the new monthly comic book series, I, ZOMBIE is a smart, witty detective series with a mix of urban fantasy and romantic dramedy. Gwendolyn “Gwen” Dylan is a 20-something gravedigger in an eco-friendly cemetery. Once a week she must eat a human brain to keep from losing her memories, but in the process she becomes consumed with the thoughts and personality of the dead person until she eats the next one. She sets out to fulfill the dead person’s last request, solve a crime, or right a wrong.
Our zombie girl detective is joined by a radical supporting cast: her best friend Eleanor who happens to be a swinging 60s ghost; a posse of vampires who play paintball; a smitten weredog, and a sexy but demented mummy.
I, Zombie was first announced last year. I may have mentioned that I'm a big Mike Allred fan. While I was saddened that Allred is taking a break from Madman Atomic Comics, I can't wait to see how this turns out.
Don't miss this when it comes out. And who doesn't love zombies?
