Ultimate X-men #10
So in this issue Weapon X sends the X-men to rescue Nick Fury. We see how the heroes would react if they were ever actually used as a military force. I thought it was a good it was the flip side to the coin of the regular universe X-men, and the beginning of this one, where the writers treat them as a paramilitary organization.
It is something to see what happens when the X-men are not in control of their own lives. Basically, this is an entire book worth of the X-men whining about the situation, and we are reminded many times that they are not in control of their actions. I can honestly say, there is no character advances at all here.
Actually, there is one really good character scene
Colossus is told to stop a train by standing in front of it and catching it. He mentions there are degrees of super strength, and why do people assume he can do those kinds of things. There is a scene where Jean is forced to kill, and it is meant to be dramatic, and we are to feel for Jean, but we already know this team does not have the same standards as the regular Universe team, so it falls flat.
Over all this book really is a lot of nothing. I guess it makes for a decent middle chapter to show how badly the team has it, especially towards the end. Yet that is the problem ... this entire issue is a lot of filler until the last 2 pages. Only then does the story seem to be advanced.
