Is Trauma a well thought out character?
Copy says:
"Apparition says:"Copy says:I do read books. ""No idea who he is."maybe if you ever read a book or somethin"
if you say so ;)
Apparition says:
"but i'm gently attacking. besides i looked all crazy when i was red"
I loved you when you were red. It looked dropped dead gorgeous with you. Now be red again. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?
I don't know if Trauma is well thought out. I haven't seen much of him outside of Initiative. If he mimicks the form of a person's fear if their fear is drowning what happens? Does he become a tidal wave or lake? If it's Thanos does he become Thanos with all his abilities? If their is a good explanation of his ability I will say it's well thought out.
Far to often a concept is very attractive but the explanation is incomplete leaving "floating" characters that creators are uninterested in, afraid to use, or worst of all used and abused because there is no real rhyme or reason to how they do what they do. It jumbles up continuity and makes a mess. Then you have to call in your Grant Morrison's to make since of tyhis high concept with some metaphysical mechanics and you lose your low brow audience , sales drop , and the chacter is back in limbo.
Just my thoughts on it.
Ok Sling-Shot, your post was a very good query. In retrospect, Trauma's creators had desired Trauma to have the primary ability of Sensing what the opponent feared and hence accumulating the power of that fear, amplifying it manifold and hence gaining an incredible advantage over his foe. For example if Trauma were to face Cyclops, he would be able to project the death of Jean Grey in Scott's mind repeatedly overwhelming him in the process. He can also manifest this fear in a more physical form.
This is why he was planned to be an ally of Thanos because with this ability, he could help Thanos accomplish the universal annihilation dream of his to curry favour with Death.
And Appz, blasting holes in the Hulk did only so much. We all know what happened next! heh heh

He literally becomes that person's fear.
@A-Station: But red is so, vibrant and brings out your eyes (?)

HAnhy. That is the question I just asked. what does becoming somenes fear entail?

I've actually got his first appearance issue somewhere (I think thats the only issue I've got with him in it), at the time I thought he was an cool character, I can see how he'd be a good foil for Hulk but then apparently he wasn't used well and faded into obscurity. There seems to be a lot of characters of his type that have an interesting background or creative powers but never really take off for one reason or another.

Yeah, you're right, but I don't think he's faded away just yet. Doesn't feel like he's been around long enough to disappear yet, if that makes sense. I mean, he's really only in The Initiative and he's only missed two issues of that, so it's not like he's gone yet. They're probably just focusing on others right now, he could come back. I think he could be a good character and would like for him to stick around.
And for Sling Shot's question on what he'd become if someone feared drowning, I think he'd turn into a bloated, watery corpse, maybe with seaweed on him, but something that makes him look like someone who drowned. I don't remember exactly, but I think he was messing with someone who feared a disease and he turned into an old man suffering from said disease (I think that happened, but don't hold me to it, memory's fuzzy).
Now I'm confused, I was talking in reference to this guy
He's the same guy as this Trauma? Surely they can't retcon a Kree to be a gothy kid named Terrance.

Wow. Now that I look at where this forum is, yeah, this is not who I was thinking of. Pay attention Buckshot!

I didn't know that I was unsure. Didn't even enter my mind that he was talking about a different Trauma.
