Touka Kirishima

Creation

Touka Kirishima (霧嶋 董香, Kirishima Tōka) is a ghoul and worker at Anteiku. While hunting, she wears a rabbit mask and her alias is Rabbit (ラビット). She is a second year student at Kiyomi HighSchool.

Personality

Touka is known to be shy in public and around people she doesn't know, but when she opens up, she has a wide variety of emotions.

She can be stubborn when teaching and when she is around her friends. Her emotions can sometimes get the best of her. For example, she hunted down the investigators that killed Hinami's mother and killed one of them.

She has also shown to be kind-hearted around her friends and coworkers and will do anything for them.

Appearance

Touka is seen through most of the book having her large purple bangs covering the right side of her face. She is skinny and in-shape. She is shown wearing her work uniform when she is at Anteiku and her blue jacket with short shorts when she isn't at work.

When she is hunting, she wears a mask that resembles a rabbit. Hence the alias, The Rabbit. She wears a purple jacket and and she wears a blonde wig to conceal her identity fully when eating so the investigators do not find out who she is.

Plot

She is first shown in Anteiku serving Kaneki and Hide coffee and Hide flirts with her. A while after Kaneki is turned into a half ghoul, he runs into Nishiki and Nishiki fights Kaneki over the dead body and both are interrupted by Touka. She eventually welcomes Kaneki into Antieku with Yoshimura. She taught Kaneki how to make coffee and work in the shop.

Investigator Arc

Later on, Hinami was walking home with her mother and was confronted by two investigators, Mado and Amon, the mother died saving her daughter from the two investigators. Touka was, later, informed that Hinami's mother had been killed and she lost control of her emotions. She dressed up as the Rabbit and hunted down the two investigators and killed one of the investigator friends. Mado eventually fought Touka off from the other investigator, but she escaped.

Hinami was hurt for making Touka go and kill one of the investigators and thought she was useless. She ran off from Anteiku and caused Touka to chase after her. Touka eventually found her in the subways, but Mado had followed her there. Touka fought Mado and killed him while Kaneki met Amon (Mado's partner) and kept Amon away from his partner. She picked Hinami with Kaneki, after killing Mado, and left for Antieku, leaving Amon behind.

Gourmet Arc

Shuu Tsukiyama (The Gourmet) stopped by Anteiku, threatening everyone and bragging about his restaurant. Touka told him off and he left. Kaneki informed her that Shuu had stolen Kimi (Nishiki's lover) and will eat her. Touka agreed to help Kaneki and Nishiki. She came across the old church Shuu had brought Kimi to. Shuu was about to eat Kimi when Touka kicked him in the face. Touka was weakened from all the human food she was eating to look normal. So, Shuu began to beat up Touka while Kaneki was bashed into the pavement. Shuu got hungry and went to Kimi to have a bite. Nishiki grabbed his foot as Shuu bashed him it the ground. Shuu, frustrated, turned around to see Kaneki allowing Touka to take a bite out of him to give Touka the strength to beat Shuu.

Touka charged at Shuu and smashed him into the walls and the pavement. Touka cut Shuu's face in half and cut off his arm. She, then, walked over to Kimi because she was human and had seen the identities of Kaneki and Touka. Touka had to kill Kimi. Kimi commented Touka on her ghouls and her kagune. Touka, in confusion, sprinted out of the church and had to think about how being a ghoul could be "pretty."

Aogiri Tree Arc

Anteiku had a man show up looking for Rize, he was deeply in love with her and was going to tell her to run because the Aogiri tree was going to show up. Kaneki hit the man unconscious and waited. That evening, the Aogiri Tree did show up, including Touka's brother, whom she hadn't seen in ages. A big man named Yamori picked up Kaneki and bashed his head repeatedly into a counter. Kaneki(now unconscious) was kidnapped by Yamori. Touka tried to save him but Ayato beat her up and left her unconscious in the coffee shop.

Not knowing what would happen to Kaneki, Touka contacted the manager (Yoshimaru) on what to do. Yoshimaru contacted everyone and brought them to the coffee shop. Their plan was to go into the main Aogiri Base and get Kaneki out. After putting on their disguises, they went inside the base which was under attach by the CCG. Touka ran to the roof top and confronted her brother, who was there at the moment. The two broke out in a fight and Ayato was winning by ripping off Touka's incomplete wing with his teeth. Kaneki showed up at the time when Ayato was ripping her wing off and beat Ayato into the ground. Kaneki proceeded to break 103 of Ayato's bones. Touka, not knowing what happened to Kaneki when he was with Yamori, regrouped with the others and saw Kaneki was going to leave Anteiku. She wanted to go with but he wouldn't let her.

Tokyo Ghoul:re

Touka has been seen once so far in this sequel. When Quinx Squad visited the local coffee store, she is seen at the new coffee shop as the store manager, :Re, talking to Yomo about greeting their customers.

She is later shown at the shop confronted by Tsukiyama Shuu. Shuu asks her angrily if Kaneki was still the same after his disappearance. Touka is aware that Kaneki is has lost his memories and says that it is better that he doesn't come back.

Powers & Abilities

Ukaku: Touka has a Ukaku as her kagune. It comes out of her shoulder blades like wings a fires sharp crystallized rocks known as Feathers. She can tear her enemies to shreds and bash through walls easily.

Claws: Touka has been seen cutting through peoples' heads and tearing through humans with little effort. She has been able to swipe off limbs with ease and puncture human flesh with ease.

Enhanced Speed and Strength: Touka depends on speed for most of her movements, but lacks the stamina to keep attacking after extended periods of time. Her strength isn't that notable, but she has been seen bashing through stone walls and tossing around humans like ragdolls.

Stealth: Touka has many disguises and using them to protect her identity from the CCG. She sees protecting your identity as a ghoul is the most important.

Anime

A 12-episode anime television series adaptation by Pierrot aired on Tokyo MX between July 3 and September 18, 2014. It also aired on TVA, TVQ, TVO, AT-X and Dlife. The opening theme song is "unravel" by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, and the ending theme is "Saints" (聖者たち Seijatachi^?) performed by People In The Box. Funimation has licensed the anime series for streaming and home video distribution in North America.

A second season, titled Tokyo Ghoul √A (root A) will premiere in Japan in January 8, 2015.
