I'm generally an outsider when it comes to most things comics but even more so when it comes to Thor.

From what I've gathered a lot to do with Thor, Odin, and Loki appears to be mostly a permanent status. Are they always in this struggle? Will Odin always be in power and Thor always be the god of thunder?

They grew up so I assume one day they will age and die.

Can anyone give me some insight please?

Well thor and odin use the apples of idun to make them age slower and live longer. When thor became rune king thor , he gained imortality. I have no idea what his age is.

Yes they age very slowly, probably die of age bit it would take millions or billions of years. Without the apples they would start to age quickly and become weak. Most of the information of the Norse religion was either changed or burned by the Christan take over so there's no way to really know when the myth started. In myth Odin is a third generation God which means he was born soon after the Earth was made and Thor would have been born around the same as the start of humans.

The answer can be complicated as there is lots of inconsistencies within the actual comics, with flash backs, and various writer stories that have time stamps which may contradict each other. Another thing that complicates estimating these particular characters ages, is the Ragnarok cycle. So would one wish to know the current cycles Thor's age, or the age of the being that might be Thor though out history? Its supposed that one Ragnarok's destruction of Asgard was what caused the "Star of Bethlehem" yes that star, which would time stamp that Ragnarok at 2000 years but its also supposed that Earth just got that signal, 2000 years later, and that the last Asgardian Ragnarok cycle was actually 4000 years ago, and that does roughly fit in with a lot of stories use of Thor and Warriors Three in flashbacks. The creation of one version of Thor's hammer is also said to be the event which killed the dinosaurs, which would make Thor a lot older. Then again the actual Asgardian's often admit that they are so old that often their own understandings of their age and origins bleed together subjectively. So who knows, they may just be remembering events from previous incarnations.

As a rough guide I will say modern day Thor can be viewed to be around 4000 years old. Unlike the myth Thor, Thor's mother is an elder god. Its arguable that he may therefore be a different type of immortal to most Asgardians. Another factor is traditionally Asgardians are viewed as cyclical, so assuming if Thor ever took over from Odin, Ragnarok cycle would start things over again. Buri, Bor, Odin, Thor, Magni, Buri, Bor, Jimi Hendrix, Mufasa, Thor, Buri, Bor, Thor etc BUT... in recent times supposedly that has al changed, when Thor acquired the Sword of Greyskull (lots of power) and broke the Ragnarok cycle freeing Asgardian's from... immortality uh... oh wait, giving them more freedom over their own fate.

Hope this rambling helps somewhat. Many Asgardian's where invoked in the Hyborean age which is like 10 000 years back and older. Whether that's current Thor or one of the past Thor's only Thor knows and he is contractually obligated by Marvel movie execs to not be candid about those days.

He was born in a cave in Norway, so I would of guessed shortly after Earth was created. Odin was looking for a son to eventually take over from him.

It's an assumption since Thor has lived for a long(millions of years)time as ruler of Asgard before he even came to Earth(Asgard was already a prosperous civilization).

''The first time I remember laying eyes upon Midgard...the people still lived in caves and fought one another with stones and sticks''

The Stone Age is a broad prehistoric period during which stone was widely used to make implements with a sharp edge, a point, or a percussion surface. The period lasted roughly 3.4 million years, and ended between 6000 BCE and 2000 BCE with the advent of metalworking

I dont know if that matters anymore.Odin died in the future of an old age(not so sure completely).if he consumed those apples then he would be alive.i dont know if those apples have the same mechanics as before.

Thor is over 2-3 million years old.he is immortal in most of the comics without the apples so it depends on a writer.

Yeah well maybe that scan wasn't a good one to upload but here's one I find impressive regarding the years Thor has lived:

Thor tells Iron-Man he was here 1000 years ago, but here's another one which I find interesting where Thor mentions that it's hard for him to remember things (and people) because of how long he has lived:

That page is a theme many writers don't really explore with Thor. Aaron touched upon it as have others.

Being virtually immortal and having so many mortal allies, how does one cope with the fact that close friends and/or girlfriends will be born and die in the blink of an eye (to Thor's perception, due to his age)?

It'd be fun to read like a maxi-series exploring Thor's relationship with those around him and show a story where say 100 years pass and all of the Avengers and other heroes age and die with Thor still looking the same and meeting new people.
