Go to any respect thread and hardcore fans can show you "binders full of" feats thor can do yet he on average only uses a fraction of a fraction of them(lighting). Sure he doesn't want to kill or cause collateral damage but thor still did more like summon tornados and such during his run with the avengers up to mid volume three. Is anyone else wish thor flex his abilities more?
Thor
Character » Thor appears in 8592 issues.
Thor Odinson is the All-father of Asgard /God of Thunder, offspring of All-Father Odin & Elder-Goddess Gaea. Combining the powers of both realms makes him an elder-god hybrid and a being of no perceivable limits. Armed with his enchanted Uru hammer Mjolnir which helps him to channel his godly energies. The mightiest and the most beloved warrior in all of Asgard, a staunch ally for good and one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse/omniverse. Thor is also a founding member of the Avengers.
is Thor holding back too much?
He does hold back a lot. He does want to do damage to earth or hurt anyone. He was devastated when he destroyed Broxton.
Not only that, but Jason Aaron said he purposefully doesn't use some of thors powers because he would be too powerful if he did. It wouldn't make for good stories, because he's so versatile.
Thor is a planet buster, if he didn't hold back he'd cause more destruction and endanger more lives than most of the enemies he faces, Mortal or otherwise.

@cresshadow: i think it's ridiculous when someone loses and is later revealed it's because they "held back" does he not know how to defeat someone without killing them? does his powers only have two settings? adequate, and planet buster?
Marvel needs a reboot of a group of Artist and story writers to make a consistent Action comic with an actual power scaling. Some of Thors Abilities I wouldn't even say they are Combat Abilities. Thor and Hulk can still be the strongest with out putting insane levels of BS in the story. Its multiple writers which is destroying these characers consistencies and integrity and leaving it up to...."holding back". Almost why I stopped Reading DC and Marvel and jump to shounen because its abit more consistent using the same Writer for the length of the series. When the Author of these characters say in regards to their strength....They will be as strong as they need to be for the given situation. Then you have some crappy writters.
More like his writers hold back. A lot of times Thor is hanging out on Earth with the Avengers or just on Broxton, so it's hard to show him summoning the "winds of a thousand worlds" unless a situation calls for it. Aaron did show Thor (or three Thors) "cut loose" in the God Butcher saga because of the scale and setting of his story (a cosmic tale spanning across time and space). I'm of the opinion that Thor hangs out on Earth too much so he appears to be on the same level as other heroes and his teammates. It should be more of an event when he shows up. Sort of like if he were treated as a "nuclear option" for the Avengers when things really got bad (say against a Graviton, Thanos or any uber powerful villain). He should be the one to tell the others "Guys, I got this." Instead he's the first to take a beating and we get tons of panels showing Cap throwing his shield.

In Thors defense, he was the MVP in the Infinity storyline.
