    Three Words, Big Friggin' Mummy

Bound, Part 2 makes a statement about this series that is pleasantly grotesque. That statement is, there are no limits or categories to undead minions in the West, because in walks the easily 11 foot-tall mummy of Asher Cobb. Who is Asher Cobb? I have no idea, but as it seems with most supernatural occurrence and remarkably dangerous figures in this series, Drake Sinclair knows. If he wasn't so scarily misplaced in this old-West genre, I'd say Asher mummy was just sort of silly but instead, it's just sort of exciting.  With out spoiling too much, I will get into the specifics of what makes this issue so good.

First, the panels in this issue really give a cramped feeling that one may have running away from the servants of a necromancer aimed at prying a few pistols from your cold dead fingers. As per usual Brian Hurtt offers very appropriate angles and panels that show movement and have purpose of change. For instance, as the Jedi-cloaked mummy of Asher Cobb punches through the door of the train car, Hurtt uses a tall horizontal panel in the middle of the page to emphasize the side movement of Drake and Becky. By the next page there is a great lower right angle shot of the train that gives a very long, narrow hallway impression. The issue goes on to utilize panels in just as effective ways.

As far as story goes, this may not be the strongest issue of the series but its most certainly a page turner and it fits into the theme for the second part in a story arc. The issue continues with the havoc brought on by Eli Barlow's decaying delivery boys and a couple of knives aimed right for our mysterious bad-ass, Drake Sinclair. Miss Montcreif proves herself more useful as the series goes on in both shooting and use of her pistol's powers but the factors at hand are admittedly, too much for most people to process clearly. In that way, the issue really gives off the close-quarter fight to live vibe which recognizes the brutality and uncertainty of the antagonists situation.

Normally its easy to say that the protagonists will always live and hold out until they reach their goals but when dealing with this many supernatural and personal factors that are unknown to the reader, its a bit more up in the air. We have already seen several likeable characters of this series get wasted and it sort of begs the question as to who is or isn't expendable. Overall, this issue had nearly everything I wanted as a continuation of this train ride from hell, now its just a matter of tying more information into this story, and answering some of the unsolved mysteries that leave your fingers curling the pages knowing you have to wait another month to see what happens.
