Origin

Nite Owl and Rorschach first came together during Nite Owl's first outing as a superhero. After Nite Owl broke up a riot, Rorschach snuck aboard Archimedes and proposed that they watch one another's backs. The team proved a strong one, and they undertook several successful missions together.

Creation

The team was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. They made their first appearance as a team in Watchmen #6.

Major Story Arcs

Watchmen

The team split up several years prior to the murder of the Comedian due to Rorschach's increasing instability and Nite Owl's retirement. They are brought back together after Rorschach is sent to prison. Nite Owl breaks him out, and together the pair investigate the Comedian's murder, uncovering Adrian Veidt's connection to the murder and the grander conspiracy. They travel together to Veidt's Antarctic headquarters to confront him. There, they attack him, but are defeated. Nite Owl is eventually persuaded to Veidt's side, while Rorschach refuses to compromise. He is killed by Dr Manhattan, marking the final dissolution of the team.

Before Watchmen

Though they initially have some differences in opinions on the case, Nite Owl and Rorschach ultimately join forces to take down a corrupt reverend who has been murdering prostitutes. Nite Owl rescues Rorschach from the church basement, and Rorschach kills the reverend to prevent him from killing again.
