Cypher programmed the Danger Room. The other New Mutants were restless and keen to work off some excess energy after their return from space (see New Mutants #51). When the programme started, they found themselves stood in the middle of Central Park facing the Avengers. Sunspot complained that the real Avengers were out of their league, so Cypher altered the programme to create the Teen Avengers. The New Mutants giggled, but soon came under attack.
In outer space, a bright light began to shine.
Magik dodged Captain Marvel (see Photon) by teleporting onto the back of the Black Knight's sky-rider. She tickled him until he crashed into Delacorte Lake, and she teleported away.
The light in space approached the Earth.
Sunspot faced She-Hulk. The boulders she threw at him weren't enough to stop Sunspot. They grappled, and he caught her off-guard with a kiss. He pinched nerves in her neck & shoulder rendering her unconscious.
The light from space approached North America.
Captain America's shield knocked Wolfsbane's legs from underneath her. He grabbed her by the scruff of her neck, but was surprised when she transformed back into a girl. Captain America couldn't hit a girl, so Cannonball took the opportunity to blast out through the ground to attack Cap.
New York appeared to be the mysterious light's destination.
However, Captain Marvel then struck Cannonball from behind, disrupting his concentration & his blast field. Cannonball fell, but was quickly caught by Thor. Captain Marvel complained that he should have let Cannonball go 'splat', but Thor berated her. Suddenly Captain Marvel screamed as she was confronted by a giant hair monster.
The thing from space could see Westchester.
Captain Marvel crash landed at Mirage's feet. She curled up into the emrbyo position and cried for her mommy. Mirage comforted her, and considered how similar the Teen Captain Marvel was in age to Wolfsbane. Meanwhile, Cannonball woke up and blasted free from Thor's grasp. Startled, Thor fell towards Sunspot who punched him into Captain America.
A dark shadow engulfed Xavier's School for the Gifted.
Cannonball swooped down victoriously next to Sunspot as Mirage counted the defeated Teen Avengers. She couldn't remember who they'd missed when suddenly Thor and Captain America appeared to race towards her. She began to panic, but Warlock reached across and appeared to punch mid-air. Suddenly Dr Druid fell unconscious and Cannonball & Sunspot re-appeared where Thor & Canptain America had been. The New Mutants celebrated their triumph over the simulated Avengers, but Mirage suspected that Cypher had given them an easy programme.
The Danger Room began to shudder. Cypher claimed that it wasn't his doing and they all ran out. Warlock's sensors no longer detected anything outside the mansion to they ran to the front door.
There they were greeted by a gigantic green spaceship surrounded by blood red clouds of thunder.
A voice greeted them and vowed to be peaceful. A pointy-headed green man in pruple clothes appeared in a column of sparkling yellow light. He was instantly disappointed that the New Mutants weren't the X-Men. Mirage didn't like his accusation that they had done something to the X-Men so she set the record straight and introduced themselves. Magik nudged Mirage with her elbow and introduced the Impossible Man. He clearly had fond memories of Magik, and she recalled the time he 'kidnapped' the mansion (Uncanny X-Men Annual #7).
The others were amazed, so the Impossible Man began to change his appearance and show off his talents. With a popping sound he would change his appearance, as he explained who he was. He turned into Nick Fury (complete with eye patch), the Hellfire Club's Black Queen with the Wasp's wardrobe, the original Iron Man armour with the Hulk's old tattered purple pants, Zabu the sabretoothed tiger, Doctor Strange's mystic window and even the Fantasti-Car. The Impossible Man just wanted to have fun on Earth.
Mirage informed the Impossible Man that the X-Men weren't home, and they turned to go back into the mansion. He took this as a challenge and turned himself into a musclar superhero. When he accused them of being scared, Warlock had an angry fit and accepted the Imppossible Man's challenge. Warlock then began to change into similar & competative versions of whatever the Impossible Man turned into; a muscled super hero, a General in the US army, school yard bullies...
Suddenly Warlock and the Impossible Man vanished. Magik offered to teleport them to Limbo and track the two aliens with a Scrying Pool. Cypher tried not to show his concerns about being left defenceless without Warlock. Mirage agreed to Magik's plan, but Cannonball insisted that they wear their graduation uniforms so no-one would identify them.
The New Mutants arrived at the Hudson River. There a purple Hulk and yellow Thing were destroying the place during a devastating fight. Wolfsbane and Mirage kept construction workers at bay, while Cypher convinced policemen not to use their guns. Magik followed 'Hulk' and 'Thing' on to the pier, but they destroyed the floorboards beneath her feet. Magik couldn't tell which was was up as she fell, but was luckily caught by Cannonball. They flew away from the pier as Warlock and the Impossible Man charged at each other and vanished in a terrible explosion. The pier was destroyed, and the local construction workers wondered whether their heroes had killed each other. However, the New Mutants were very annoyed that the aliens had teleported away again.
After visiting Limbo, the New Mutants found themselves in Rio De Janeiro. Sunspot was thrilled to be back in his home city. Just as they were wondering where to go, Cypher could sense that Warlock was on the beach. They decided that their costumes might upset the locals, so Sunspot ran off to buy them new clothes. Wolfsbane hid underneath a white t-shirt, while the rest of the New Mutants enjoyed their slinky swimwear and the lively atmosphere on the beach. They surrounded Wolfsbane so no-one would notice her transform into a wolf. She then picked up Warlock's sent and ran though the crowds to a tent.
There were crowds of girls screaming at a blond man as he flexed his muscles. Wolfsbane was shocked into silence, while Mirage and Magik were busy lusting over the muscular man. He addressed them all as 'lady earthlings', just as a dark-haired muscle builder appeared from the tent. The girls instantly recognised Warlock's voice. Mirage grew angry and told Warlock to stop the beauty contest. However, the local girls grew angry at Mirage for ruining their fun and grabbed her. Meanwhile on the stage, the Impossible Man used his shape-shifting abilities to grow larger muscles. Even Mirage and Magik blushed and enjoyed the hedonistic display. However, Cannonball grew tired of waiting and flew into both the aliens. He scooped them up and dumped them in the sea. The water made Warlock's circuits appear, and washed off the Impossible Man's skin coloured make-up. The rest of the New Mutants arrived and asked them to stop their contest. However, the crowd of girls followed had them and were angry that they were tricked by Warlock & the Impossible Man. The Impossible Man blamed Cannonball for ruining their contest, while Warlock held off the attacking women. They then teleported away to continue their contest, and the New Mutants soon followed.
Warlock and the Impossible Man arrived on Wimbledon's Centre Court in the middle of a match. The tennis players ran away, leaving the aliens to play tennis. They fired dozens of tennis balls at each other at the same time. The New Mutants had changed back into their graduation costumes, but when they appeared on Centre Court they were showered by all the high speed tennis balls. They begged the aliens to stop their contest, or try a quiet game of chess instead. The police ran onto the court, but Wolfsbane managed to scare them off long enough for Magik to teleport the girls away, and Cannonball to fly the boys away. The tournament quickly resumed.
Cannonball flew passed Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square when suddenly Cypher spotted a commotion on the street below. Cannonball landed and Magik teleported the girls to the same spot just in time for a shop window to smash. Someone had been hit so hard that they flew out of the store and crashed into a sports car parked outside. Warlock had changed into Captain Britain, and he lay in the wreckage of the car. The Impossible Man had turned into a purple & green version of Captain America. He leapt out of the broken window to fight Warlock. Suddenly they stoppped fighting as they questioned why the two Captains who they represented would fight each other. The New Mutants took the chance to try and talk to the two aliens. However, they had decided that since two heroes wouldn't fight, that they needed to be a known hero & foe. Warlock changed into Professor Xavier, while Impossible Man resembled Magneto. They yelled at the New Mutants to leave them alone, and the Impossible Man's 'Magneto' used his magnetic powers to ensnare the New Mutants in a barrage of scrap metal.
Impossible Man & Warlock then discussed the morality of heroes fighting heroes. They changed into Sylvester Stallone, with Impossible Man as Rambo and Warlock as Rocky Balboa. Impossible Man understood Warlock's dilemna so he transformed into Mr T as Clubber Lang and punched Warlock. Warlock was sent flying back into the damaged comic shop. There, he changed into Nick Fury and fought the Impossible Man who resembled Baron Von Strucker. Outside the shop Sunspot ripped their metal prison apart. Cannonball flew into the comic shop to stop the fighting, but was instantly thrown back outside. Magik teleported them inside where they found Warlock as Spider-Woman fighting the Viper. The Impossible Man objected to this fight as Spider-Woman was his friend. During the lull in fighting, the New Mutants went to pounce on them. However they teleported away again.
The New Mutants had landed on the aliens and teleported with them to Russia. Tanks rolled by them as part of a military procession in Red Square. Warlock transformed from Spider-Woman into Spider-Man and his Impossible Man in the eye with a yellow web-shooter. This caused him to transform into a purple Green Goblin and flew into the air. The Russian generals saw this as an attack and ordered immediate manoeuvres. Magik finally lost her patience and teleported Warlock into Limbo. There she raged at Warlock, shaming him for his selfish behaviour and all the trouble he caused.
Meanwhile, Cannonball flew after the purple Green Goblin. However, the Impossible Man caught him by the throat and changed into Thanos. When Russian helicopters opened fire, he transformed their rotor blades into parachutes, causing them to slowly fall out of the air. He threw a tantrum, threatening to transform the Earth into cheese unless they returned Warlock.
Warlock flew out of one of Magik's stepping discs. As Captain Marvel (see Mar-Vell) he punched the Impossible Man's Thanos. He dropped Cannonball, who was caught by Sunspot. The Russian army surrounded the New Mutants. Magik teleported them away as soon as the aliens vanished.
The Prime Minister of Japan welcomed Prince Charles and Princess Diana to Tokyo. However, their access along the red carpet was blocked by the Impossible Man's giant purple foot. He had changed into Galactus, while Warlock had assumed the shape of Uatu the Watcher. People ran screaming while Warlock and Impossible Man merely argued over which cosmic entity was better. The New Mutants arrived, but were powerless to do anything. Warlock gave the Imppossible Man a rabbit-punch to the noise. it knocked him crashing backwards into a building. When he rose, he had changed into Godzilla. Warlock transformed into a yellow giant Mazinger Z-type robot warrior. The New Mutants were left standing in one of his giant footsteps when Cypher suddenly realised how they could stop the fight. Together they cried for Warlock's attention, causing him to send a little figure to speak out of his giant ankle. Warlock was annoyed that they wanted to interrupt, but listened when they revealed the secret of how to beat the Impossible Man.
Towering above Tokyo's modern skyscrapers, Warlock paused the fight. He boasted that he could do something that the Impossible Man could not. Instantly Warlock changed from his traditional yellow to fill technicolour.
Hours later, the Impossible Man was still crying. The New Mutants had taken him home, and were ignoring him while they watched TV and read books about Rio. Cannonball and Mirage had a word with Warlock and convinced him to shake hands with the Impossible Man. The two aliens made friends and agreed never to fight again. Magik grumbled that things were too sickening when Magneto entered the room. Immediately the New Mutants leapt in front of the Impossible Man to hide him from their headmaster. They pretended that they had a boring day. However, the news on the television showed pictures of them on the Centre Court at Wimbledon. Magneto's temper flared as the New Mutants and the Impossible Man began to tip-toe out of the room.
