The 12th Doctor will be revealed in a few hours on BBC America. Right now the #1 rumoured choice is Peter Capaldi. Thoughts?

That would be an interesting choice.

I imagine he'd have to play it a little different from Malcolm Tucker. Otherwise, there'd be a lot of complaints. XD

He is a candidate given over here in Britain but there are others too. Looking forward to the announcement!

. I doubt it will be him. That and he has already being in Torchwood and Doctor Who already as other characters. He is not going to be the Doctor.

Apparently there are a few bratty fans threatening not to watch the show if this guy is cast. I imagine those fans are high school girls angry over the fact that the next doctor probably won't be their new crush. I, however, think he has the look. It might be good to have an older doctor as opposed to the younger ones we've had.

Whoever it is I just hope they don't make him into a she.

Martha and the 6th Doctor(?) both played smaller roles before being cast into larger ones. So, if he isn't cast I doubt it would be because of that

Ahh I didnt know that. I've only seen the first season or so of Torchwood. But yeah, that could be an issue

Yeah he has a pretty substantial role in Children of Earth. Torchwood is well worth watching by the way :)

Anyone else seriously doubt that this is the last regeneration? I know fans have been thinking this was going to be the last Doctor but come on folks, do you honestly think when 12 is done they're just gonna stop?

Seems like pretty good choice, though I still think Idris Elba should have got it.

@mercy_: I imagine his enemies would have an entirely different reaction to a giant Samoan doctor than they do with the small British guys.

Not a bad choice, but I would have preferred someone else who hadn't already been in the show.

@mercy_: well I've never really watched a full episode. I've seen bits here and there and know who some of the doctors are but I figure its a perfect time to start with a new doctor :)

But why do you say he'll be my favorite? Is that usually the case?

@extremis: I've found that the overwhelming majority favor the Doctor (and usually companion) that they first started watching with.

For example, I've watched the runs of Nine, Ten and Eleven (except for the most recent season), but the first run I watched was Eleven's and he's my favorite Doctor.

For the record, I do agree with you. Right before the announcement, for some unknown reason, I felt like making a joke by saying "What if they cast that guy from Children of Earth?"

And then they cast that guy from Children of Earth.

I just hope that the show will become darker and more serious. Matt Smith was okay, but I missed the darker tones.

I like it. He's got an interesting look to him that I like. I've never seen him in anything, besides clips of him in The Thick of It (in which he looks awesome), but I'm excited to see how he is.

At first I was like "that's a real name?", but then I googled him and remembered how awesome he was in Serenity.

Points for that being what you've seen him in. Such a good movie and an even better show.

Looking at he what he said in an interview on the reveal show last night. It seemed he was open to the idea.

That is what I thought I just thought they would not cast him since Dr Who and Torchwood are in the same universe. And he had a substantial part in Children of Earth. That is really the thing that bugs me. I have nothing against him being the doctor. I think picking an older doctor this time around is a good option since it changes things alot. But was surprised they picked him.
