The Defenders split up to look for the missing Doctor Strange!
After some standard Hulk-battling-heroes hijinks, Hulk, Nighthawk, Luke Cage, and Valkyrie decide to go looking for the missing Doctor Strange. Red Guardian tips them off that he went to see the mystic Omar Karindu. Cake, Hulk, and Nighthawk go off to find Strange, while Valkyrie stays with Red Guardian, who is trying to decide whether to return to the USSR. Val also has a run-in with her host body's husband, Jack Norriss, who still loves her. Hellcat then pops up; she has been training with Moondragon on Titan, but Moondragon sensed a dire threat to Earth and sent Patsy back to warn the Avengers and Strange.
Meanwhile, the others find Karindu, who fills them in on this same cosmic threat: the Star of Capistan, a powerful magic jewel that has taken over Strange and turned him into the new Red Rajah.
Everyone in the streets starts to become hypnotized by the jewel, and they walk towards it, in Central Park, where the new Strange/Rajah is. Nighthawk, Cage, and Hulk follow, but Strange defeats them, only to be confronted by the ladies of the team: Val, Red Guardian, and now Hellcat.
