Introducing Ruby Thursday! Marvel’s strangest villainess makes her enigmatic debut as a headwoman of the Headmen. Doctor Strange suspects Nighthawk’s possessed. And he’s not wrong- Chondu the Mystic has claimed Nighthawk’s body as his own!

Hellstrom tries to exorcise the spirit the Defenders believe controls the body of Nighthawk. However, it doesn't work, and they realize it is not a problem of possession, but the result of surgery--that the brain of Chondu the Mystic (who Jack Norriss recognizes from a Vermont State Fair) has been implanted in Nigthawk's body.

Since Nighthawk's brain is laying in a dish and has no sensory input, all it can do is remember his past. His mother died when he was a child, and he was raised by his remote father. He went to boarding school and fought against the kids and teachers.

Despite his poor record, his father's money got him into college, where he met a girl, Mindy Williams. He actually started to try to be a good student, but was overwhelmed, and fell into drinking. This led to a drunken car accident where Mindy seemingly died. He was thrown out of college, but his heart murmur kept him from being drafted. His father died in a plane crash at the same time.

He inherited his father's millions, but didn't care, and instead agreed to work with the Grandmaster in exchange for a formula that healed his heart and gave him enhanced strength at night. He started as a villain, but eventually joined the Avengers.

Dr. Strange leads the Defenders to the Headmen's headquarters to get Kyle's brain back. However, they are taken by surprise by the Headmen's newest member, Ruby Thursday, who defeats them all in one blast of her plastoid head.
